Warranty Issue with our Cougar 25RDS

We have a new Cougar 25RDS. We have had several minor warranty issues that have been repaired, but the worst was a small leak that unfortunately kept getting our mattress wet. The dealer fixed the leak and ordered a new mattress. Unfortunately, the new mattress is not nearly as good a quality as the old one. We were told by the dealer that the manufacturer Keystone used to use doesn't make king RV mattresses and more and they had to switch companies. I don't care that it's a different manufacturer, but a backache (we even have a mattress topper) every time we camp is unacceptable. I assumed (wrongly?) that the warranty meant we'd get as good as we had before. Do we have any recourse? The dealer says they can't help.

It isn’t the dealer’s fault. All RV manufacturers buy EVERYTHING in bulk, and when that supply is exhausted, they buy in bulk again, often times from whatever supplier can fulfill the order for the least amount of cost. It is not at all unusual for some units made the same week or even day to have different materials inside.

If you really loved the old mattress, maybe you can find the brand somewhere else yourself or find an even better mattress replacement (there are lots of great options out there for very reasonable cost). In the end, the manufacturer (any manufacturer) owes you a mattress, and that’s exactly what they gave you.

We bought a new 25RDS in April. The mattress was ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and go get a Brooklyn Bedding Hybrid. We just spent two months camping and that mattress is so comfortable that are selling our $4k Tempur Pedic.

Rob is right. You were owed a new mattress and got one - that would be the end of it. In the current state of affairs I would be thankful they found ANY kind of mattress (thankfully it's not a computer chip). What you thought was an excellent mattress for YOUR back may have been considered junk to the next guy so when an RV comes to the lot (or a replacement) you get "a mattress" of some kind.

If you really liked your OE mattress you would be in the minority I expect. When I was young I didn't care but as father time marched on I found I did care....a lot. I've had what was supposed to be a "premium" mattress in an RV and regular mattresses in the last many years - I didn't like any of them and just replaced them as soon as, or before, I got the trailer. I consider them like the tires - replace before I spend the first night in it.

Sorry you didn't get what you had as a replacement but that won't be a dealer or manufacturer fault - blame the world I suppose.

Be happy your truck engine didn't blow and they only had 6cyl's left and you had to listen to people telling you to deal with it.

Better to tell folks the truth than tell them to go "bark up a tree" until they're hoarse, or worse yet, have them go spend $1k on a lawyer to get a $300 mattress as some would...... The dealer did what they could (they are not a mattress store nor are they Keystone) and Keystone explained why the mattresses were different - that's life.

It happens in EVERY line of business.

My "garage refrigerator" (the one I store my worms in) evaporator fan blade got bent (ice buildup) and I ordered a replacement. When it came in, it wasn't metal, but "cheap plastic" for almost twice the price. When I contacted Sears Parts about it, they said, Sorry, the metal fan is no longer available, use the plastic one or look elsewhere. We only stock the plastic. https://www.searspartsdirect.com/pro...3/id-wr02x3198

So, when it comes to a manufacturer (Keystone, Sears or someone else) when the part is modified or substituted and the old style is no longer available, you either take what they have or go somewhere else to try to find it...

If it’s still a brand new mattress…I’d sell it if you need to …put the money towards a new one/ better one…I wouldn’t want the headache myself. I took mine out and put a residential queen mattress and am very happy….lots of things products come standard with base options….people buy a new truck and immediately swap out tires or shocks for better ones

Hvac systems come with basic thermostats usually…people often upgrade to wifi programmable stats

Maybe the dealer will just take it back and give you $100 towards a new one…they probably only pay $50 or less for the installed ones at keystone

And I agree with sourdough and others…mattresses are very subjective …what you think is uncomfortable….someone else may find just right …keystone has no idea how to get one just right for everyone
