Awning detaching

We’ve had our Montana High Country for 2 years and recently noticed the awning/irrigation strip detaching from the side wall of the RV. I can’t see the screw heads because they are covered by the strip. Any suggestions on how to best repair this?

Pull the plastic strip off; push one side in until you get the edge to slide out from under the groove in the metal strip and start pulling it out.

You need to find out why those screws pulled out - possibly a leak from the top of that transition strip causing causing the screws to lose grip due to deteriorated wood? Use a larger screw (seal the hole with sealant/adhesive prior to putting it in) or fill the holes if you can't reuse them, drill new ones and reattach with new screws. First thing is to find what caused the screws to come loose and everything to pull out then address that first.

Most likely the Self Tap screws installed at the factory are only grabbin g the Filon wall material and there is NO backer board behind the wall for those screws to bite into...

Dometic install manual recommends using Tri Lock (OSCAR) rivets to install the back rear rail to Filon wall...

This PDF I wrote shows you how to fix your issue and it is a quick and permanent repair...

Excellent post and solution ChuckS, beats doing as I suggested in my previous post. On my last trailer they installed the J panels incorrectly under the transition strip on the bottom and they just kept coming loose and sliding down. The ultimate solution was doing as you mention in your post; I put rivets in the transition strip/J panel and the problem was fixed from then on. I flat forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder.
