Marshall Excelsior Regulators

I see that ME has 2 different regulators that can replace the trailer OEM regulator. MEGR-253 and MEGR-253H. MEGR-253 is the standard model and MEGR-253H is the high capacity model.

Will both work in our trailers? Anyone using the High Capacity model? Specifically for the furnace. I can't find data in their catalog to tell me the specific output difference between the two.

They will both work, but I would use the high output one.

Actually, there are three versions: The H, the S (no designator) and the L

There is a comparison chart on the brochure from ME.

Here's the link to the brochure: https://www.marshallexcelsior.com/si...%20REV%20D.pdf

Any of the three would work on a "basic RV" with one furnace, standard water heater and no outside quick disconnect propane hookups. For most RV's with a 35K BTU furnace, standard water heater and one QD hookup, the S would likely be OK but for an RV with 2 furnaces, a tankless water heater and multiple QD hookups, the H is "pretty much a necessity"....

If it were me and the price was similar, I'd always opt for the best output available. Sort of like opting for 30 pound propane tanks rather than 20 pounders or a 15K air conditioner in place of a 13.5K unit.

Here's the brochure that's at the link above.

Thanks, John. I did know also about the L version but didn't consider it. I currently have an S version installed and it's working fine. A friend's regulator went bad so I went shopping online and came across this H version at a pretty good price so was curious about how it would work vs the S version. Since it should work well I bought one for him (and one for myself as a spare) and thought others might be interested in one as a back up as well

Yes, both models of the ME will work on your trailer. As noted in the chart John posted the output of the standard model is significantly lower than the high output. With todays larger, more sophisticated RVs with more "stuff" to use LP (including the QD connection) IMO the 225k btu output of the standard (MEGR-253) is marginal for the higher requirements for the larger trailers. I've used the 253H on my last 2 trailers replacing the Fairview units that came on them and I've been very happy. I would also note that a 5th wheel has a high pressure regulator on the passenger side that can be a problem. Mine whistled and made all kinds of noises when pulling from that tank. It was a Fairview as well. Replaced with a ME and I've not heard a noise since.
