Hello from COS

Hello!

My wife and I live in Colorado Springs and both retired last Spring. We picked up a “used” 2022 Cougar 27SGS and a 2018 RAM 2500 diesel to pull it. On our shakedown cruise weekend we got 18” of snow. We haven’t been out much this year, but hope to much more. We are in a heavy learning curve due to the used purchase and not getting a PDI.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on getting your new Cougar.

If you were able to successfully pull off a winter camp on your shakedown cruise and survive 18 inches of snow ... oh my! You need to be sharing with all of us how you did that! That's amazing!

We enjoy winter camping. Its so much different than warm weather camping, and so much more challenging. But, equally as rewarding.

Enjoy! Again, Welcome!

Welcome to the forum! Retired last spring? It's time to be out on the road!! The lack of a PDI from a dealer will only hurt you if you wanted them to do warranty work. As far as checking things out review this link to a PDI list;

https://www.keystoneforums.com/forum...ead.php?t=5129

You can go over your trailer with that list as comprehensively as you feel the need to so you can get a feel for what you may or may not need. If you have questions feel free to post them in the appropriate forum and I'm sure someone has probably has an answer. Happy camping.

It was definitely a learning experience. We had HVAC issues and couldn’t get AC to run before the weather turned cold. The heater wouldn’t run when the cold front came in. We used a portable propane heater until my wife asked during breakfast if I knew how the fireplace worked. We will definitely remember our first outing a long time. I suspect the HVAC issue was a loose connection in the AC unit as it seems to work now.

18"' of snow? Time to move! Seriously, set the camper up in your drive or somewhere real close to where you are and practice camp using all the systems in the camper. Wring out stuff before finding out something is amiss at a campground away from home. You can also hire an RV inspector who will usually be a tech to go over all systems thoroughly and give you a report on what isn't as it should be. 18" of snow? We are still on air conditioning in the house and my shop. Low 90s. MOVE!

Welcome, neighbor! Congrats on your first trip with your new rig. I second the suggestion to set up in the driveway and start working though every system (there’s a YouTube for everything and more) until you figure them all out. Start a punch list for everything that doesn’t work and start going through the fixes, and another list for things that you’ll want to modify or improve.
Good luck on future trips!
Btw, when and where did you get 18” of snow?

Greg

Welcome to the forum! We worked in downtown Denver for the best part of 25 years. DW lived in the Springs and up the pass (Florissant) for a few years before that. Congrats on your new setup. As you can see from my signature we have almost identical setups. We love our 27SGS and, as we are in Florida now, go camping for a week out of each month.

Greg,

It was the big storm we got on May 20th. We were at Jellystone in Larkspur just south of Castle Rock.
