Wacko RV AC Silencer Kit

Has anyone tried this? It's a bit expensive but if it really works I'll get one.

This does the same thing, only its less money:

https://rvairflow.com/collections/all

I made my own out of Styrofoam and aluminum duct tape. Probably not as good, but it cost less than $10 in materials. There are U-Tube videos if you search. My AC is much quieter now. Can barely hear it running.

I had one in my old TT and it worked like a champ. Could actually watch tv without having to turn it up to full volume.

The purpose of the RVAirflow is that it has a styrofoam box insert that goes into the area above the lower part of your A/C and blocks the "quick cool" dump area but fits in such a way that there are no voids and gaskets around the area where air is pushed into the A/C ducts very effectively. While you might be able to fabricate a similar set up the RVAirflow device is precision made to do what it is intended to do and that is increase airflow out the vents.

The quick cool "feature" on my Dometic A/C doesn't do anything since it is blocked by my RVAirflow system but not sure how much more quiet it is since we almost never used it previously and my A/C fan is still noisy enough where we use a sound bar when watching TV to be able to hear it. We have a cheap 32" TV from Wallys and the sound isn't real special.

I would hesitate to drop $250 for this particular device the OP asked about as I doubt it would be all that effective. Buy a sound bar.

So all it really does is block the quick cool? Sometimes I like the quick cool feature, but it's loud. I have some foam that I could cut to fill the quick cool hole and give it a try.

Found this video; it is for a Coleman but once you see what is included it isn't hard to figure out that they just block the "quick cool" dump outlet and the guy who does the video mentions you need the HVAC tape to "fix" the poor tape job from the factory. The RV Airflow system is a whole lot better system than he Wacko product.

I have had 2 on 2 different RVs and do like them. It doesn’t make the unit silent, just enough to watch tv without an extreme volume. The downside is no more quick flow for when u just parked in FL summers.
Btw, telling us to buy a sound-bar sure pisses off the neighbors at midnight…

Neighbors can't hear sound bar during the day or at night. MANY forum members use sound bars. Either the "neighbors" can't hear them in their own campers or they are just sitting there "pissed off".

Of the two solutions, after watching the videos, the RV Airflow is the better of the two and less $$, IMHO. Earlier this year I taped up all of the intake area to smooth the airflow and this has helped the sound and the air flow to the vents. I don't think I'm going to buy either of these solutions and will look into carving my own piece of foam. We'll see.

Ok. I am just stating what I personally see myself. When my wife is watching tv at night at a volume to be able to hear over the AC, and I go out to walk the dogs, I can hear the TV clearly from at least 1 site away.
Now that is not the case with our new DP as it is much better insulated than our Sprinter or Cyclone was.

I just ordered the RV Airflow kit for my AC and I used the BURNETTWM15 discount code for $25.50 off.

I put the RV Airflow one one of my A/Cs and it makes a significant difference in noise reduction and airflow.

Wacko products? Is that a division of the Wham-O toy company?

It does sound pretty "wacky".

I had issues listening to the TV in our 5th wheel and used a re-purposed old speaker system from a desktop computer and mounted them on the storage cabinet above our sofa with the subwoofer behind the sofa. The speakers are pointed towards the center of the sofa and sounds great. This places the sound near the listener instead of having to move the sound at a higher volume across the room.

I wired the system into the headphone jack on the TV which kept it simple, and you can still use the speakers if need through the stereo.

I put on each air conditioner and it does increase air flow efficiency with noise reduction.
Sure you could fabricate the idea but on average not near as neat.
For us it did the job, no regrets.

Are these only meant to work with ducted ac units?

They can't work with non-ducted as you would get no air from your A/C.

I just completed installation of the RV Airflow Kit. First I had to remove all of the metal tape that I had previously installed to improve the airflow. I found both of my air ducts were recessed enough that they would not meet up with the provided plastic inserts. I pulled the recessed ducts toward the openings and gained some interface but they would still not fully engage the inserts and I had to use metal tape to complete the interface. I installed the large foam piece and found it to be about 1/2 inch too thick and this causes the ceiling cover to bow around it when installed. This isn't a big deal but the AC ceiling cover is now not flush with the ceiling. I ran the AC and things are only slightly quieter than pre-install, and this is probably because I had already cleaned the intake and exhaust up with metal tape. The airflow into the vents may be slightly improved.

So, is this kit worth $150+? If you've not already cleaned up the vent system with metal tape, sure, it would be worth it, but if not I would say no.

my .02,
