Converter Specs & location Cougar 29MBS 2020

Hey folks,

I’m going to pimp my Cougar half ton 29MBS with a DYI solar upgrade:
- 400W panels & MPPT
- 2x 100AH Lithium
- 2000W inverter

I don’t plan on using alternator charging, but am wondering if I need to upgrade the converter.
Where is the converter located? What are the specs? Can it be reconfigured for Lithium charging g?
I seem to be unable to find any information on the specifics of the converter?!

Your converter is located in the cabinet across from the entrance door. Being a 2020 it is not likely to be set for use with LiFePO4 batteries, but take a look anyway. There may be a dip switch on the card allowing you to choose LE/AGM/LI.

OK found the converter. It’s a WF8955 which means 55A max output and does not have a dedicated lithium option.

Looking at the electrical installation it seems pretty unorganized/ confusing. Where could I obtain a wiring diagram for my RV?

As far as I understand the existing converter won’t be able to charge the lithium to a full charge. But does it harm the battery? I’m wondering if the only limitation is that it won’t charge the batteries to 100% then I think I don’t need to change the converter. I can live with 70-80% max charge provided by the hookup since the solar would be able to top it off.

Here's a link to Keystone's color coded unified wiring standard tech guide.

I believe it's as close to a wiring diagram as you are going to get.
It doesn't look to me like you'd need to change out the converter either however, I believe I read that the MPPT senses 120v presence when on shore power and shuts the solar off to the battery, so you may find the only time you can get a full charge is when you are disconnected from shore power.
