I have a Hemi in my beater pickup ..2004 Ram 1500 slt
I just rebuilt the motor at 180000 miles..it had a catastrophic failure, dropped a valve and blew a hole in the block. I’m pretty sure I overworked it when I bought a truckload of pressure treated wood for my sons deck. It was straining back to his house and not long after it detonated.
If a person was going to keep a truck for 5 or 6 years then I would buy whatever you feel comfortable with at the time. If you plan on keeping the truck forever then I think it’s still whatever you feel comfortable buying…..if you plan on selling or trading the truck when it reaches north of a 100000 miles then that’s when the gas truck doesn’t make much sense to me….the public perception is that gas vehicles are dependable up till the magic number of 100000 miles..carmax won’t even take a trade ( or they didn’t before ) on trucks or cars with that kind of mileage. If they do they put “value deal” or something like that on the listing.
And I know that there are many people with 300000 mile gas vehicles but I’m talking about perception
A diesel truck can and will sell as long as it’s still running, no matter what the mileage and will always bring more then the identical gas truck.
