Christmas Traditions

I was talking to a guy that works for me today about Christmas traditions....he didn’t have any
My wife and her mother always made breakfast casseroles for Christmas morning. Every year for the 30 years I’ve been married. A French toast casserole with cream cheese and a egg casserole with sausage. I look forward to it every year. My daughter recently got engaged and has her own home and she has started making one of the casseroles. My daughter also started a book exchange on Christmas Eve between our family.
As crazy as the world is right now it’s very comforting to have traditions....things that you can count on every year no matter what.
Anyone else have traditions passed down thru the family?
If not Christmas do you have any other holiday traditions?

DW's side - seafood dinner with traditional ham or turkey as well (they all grew up in the Keys, so that's where that came from). The first member of the family to call out "Christmas Eve Gift!!" on Christmas eve gets to open one small present that day.

Christmas Eve Gift!!!! Although we never have anyone with us Christmas morning, in the old days we always had "Christmas Eve Gift". Ours was the early riser told someone "Christmas Eve Gift" and the late riser was to give a small gift to that person. It played out all morning long. Did that for years...haven't for decades; we miss that.

Traditional Scottish breakfast ( My ex wife was born there) consisting of Ayeshire bacon, square sausage, potato scones, black pudding, beans, fried tomato, scottish plain toast, oh, and eggs anyway you like them. I still have that once a year for christmas breakfast.

Not really a Christmas tradition, but in the south on New Years Day, it is customary to eat black eyed peas. Said to bring good luck all year. I think I will have multiple helpings this year!

I here ya... my father in law always got steamed shrimp for New Years Eve, he passed away some time ago but I think I’m going to revive that in his memory

Got to look good for all the Christmas photos...funny how it used to take a couple of weeks to get all the rolls of film developed. Most pictures were barely passable by today’s standards and retakes. I kinda liked the old way, there was more to a picture back then.
It was more candid, people didn’t worry so much how it would look on Facebook.
And when you look at old pictures it makes you really remember that time in space because you usually have to connect all the dots to put in perspective..
Nowadays there is 100 pictures for every occasion and multiple videos
I love pulling out the old box of photos. Might have to do that this year

Nope, no long lasting traditions anyway.

We do have a "camping" tradition though that we REALLY look forward to every year.

Whenever it is, after Dec 31, the first campout of the new year, if that is Jan 1, or March 10, or June 15, the first night we arrive at the first camp of season, for supper we have wine, cheese, and crackers with candles. On the first morning of the new camping season, we have T-bone steak and eggs for breakfast. We've been doing this for 35 years, even when the kids were still little.

Yep. DW’s late mother made everyone eat 7 P’s for good luck. Pasta, peppers, peas, potatoes, parsley...- whatever food you could find and get down no matter the taste, 7 different things for good luck. I’m a picky eater, I have a hard time each year.

All my kids come home, I make breakfast, exchange a handmade gift, go skiing for 4-5 hours come back and relax. Ask anyone in my family....that is the tradition in my head and it has only happened one year so far!

Going to rain/pour tomorrow so the skiing plans are cancelled.

"Ayeshire bacon, square sausage, potato scones, black pudding"
Dan, you had me until you got to the black pudding. Yes, I grew up around some people with Scottish roots. Just where might one find 4 cups of pig blood for the recipe in this day and age?
