How about a little Cajun get-together

Gearhead, Danny, John? Maybe a few more of you......I just opened our box with a medium king cake (strawberry, praline and cream cheese) from Julie Anne's in Shreveport (thank you UPS) and tomorrow morning the meat pies from Louisiana Crawfish Company in Natchitoches will come from FedEx. Dinner for 10 tomorrow evening at our RV. Neighbors from Baton Rouge are doing gumbo and cornbread. I don't suppose I could get any you to overnight about 15 pounds of crawfish to south Florida for another get together next week?
I have had the meat pies, but have never prepared them, even frozen. One of our other neighbors is preparing shrimp jambalaya but they're from upstate New York and I'm a little wary about that.
Lord have mercy, we winter in a part of the country that isn't famous for anything that is edible.

That sure sounds like a fun time, but we are at the other end of the country. You might go to this site, http://www.neworleansfishhouse.com/shellfish . They have online ordering and it shows that they have crawfish, so they could probably overnight a mess of crawfish directly to you. Good luck.

Wow! Just made a big pot of jambalaya last evening. Neighbors were asking for some all morning long. And yes, we are in a place that isn't known for much as far as eating....except seafood!

It's coming on prime time for crawfish and don't know the availability. We have extended family in Alexandria and Le Compte LA but haven't talked to them about crawfish availability. Here's a link to a company that I've used in the past; they may be able to ship you some crawfish, boudin or ??? Good luck with the outing and "eat well my friend".....

http://www.lacrawfish.com/Comeauxs-C54.aspx

Note; this may be the place you mentioned when you said Louisiana Crawfish Company; I've always called them Comeaux's when ordering or calling them.

Actually I was just having a little fun about having the crawfish flown in, but I have an email in my box from UPS that "due to mechanical breakdown delivery will be rescheduled for Saturday." Everything may have to be put off until Saturday evening.

There's a shrimp processing plant in Cameron (the road ends at the gulf beach) that sells "surplus shrimp".... They order railroad boxcars based on the amount of shrimp that are reported by the boats on their way to the plant to unload. Usually there are several tons of shrimp that won't fit in that last boxcar and there is no transportation to get them to market. We always bought our shrimp there by the #3 washtub for pennies on the pound. The last time we had a shrimp boil, we bought 3 washtubs full of shrimp (almost filled the bed on my truck) for $100.

We buy our crawfish in Ville Platt. I have a friend who was a patient of mine at the VA hospital who owns a crawfish farm. I don't ask for any discounts and he certainly doesn't offer any, but his "mudbugs" are big, fresh, lively and taste so darn good...... He usually doesn't ship, but does deliver to distributors in larger cities throughout Louisiana and will "put a few bags" (50 pounds per bag) on the truck for pickup by customers. Usually he charges the "wholesale price" that way, about half the retail price.

A bushel of corn, a bushel of "taters", a bag of onions, a sack of garlic, a hand full of lemons, 2 sacks of crawfish and a tub of shrimp, add 3 boxes of Zatarain's Shrimp and Crawfish Boil seasoning (save one to sprinkle on top when they come out of the pot) and top off with your choice of adult beverage. Drain well, spread on a picnic table covered with old newspapers and invite the neighborhood to "suppa at 6 when da come out da pot" (Dat's when da sun goes down 'n it's cool e'nuff to eat outside, ya hear??)......

A hint: If the tail ain't curled, don't eat that one, it was dead before it hit the pot and might be spoiled.......

Turduckhen ????? That's a Christmas thang, can't do that with "spicy fingers" from peelin' mudbugs...... Priorities !!!!! LOL

Dang I completely missed all this. I was wallering around on the couch with the flu.
We did make a pretty good redfish courtbillion last week.
And dang again, we will miss my buddys big annual spring boil. Lots of old co-workers, sales reps, and the occasional boss. He does pretty good for a Norwegian from Minniesota. His boss is a Louisiana boy and helps a lot and it's a good big party. We will be in the Smokey mountains for trout fishing and a couple of NASCAR races afterwards.

Just got back from a funeral in Alexandria (LA). While there didn't have much time for anything but did make it to a place called Tunk's on Cypress Creek lake? Had several big platters of mudbugs (for all of us). Hadn't had any fresh crawfish in quite a while and had forgotten how much better fresh tastes vs what you find elsewhere. Looked like the crawfish farms were getting close to being in full swing. Think I'll route myself back through there on the way home in March......

Nothing against Tunks, but if you're running I-10 and don't want to detour up to Alec, you might try Prejeans. It's on I-49, the Lafayette exit, just north of I-10, maybe 2 exits. I have parked our 5th there.
https://prejeans.com/

If you are in the white tablecloth mood, maybe Café Vermillionville in Lafayette. According to those that should know, it was my family's tavern before the Civil War.

Danny, Tunk's is on Lake Kincaid, about 8 miles west of the Coliseum, just off 28W. We lived on Kincaid for a while and used to take the boat from our house over to Tunk's for "suppa"...

Thanks guys. I had never been there before but the sign said something about Cypress Creek?? along with Tunk's. It's nice to know the name of the lake, it was very pretty. We sat out and enjoyed it until the rain started

Prejeans sounds really good but we will stay in Alexandria. That's where our family is and where our grandgirl just died.

It's called "Tunk's Cypress Inn" maybe that's where you got the cypress part ??? If you were on the porch next to the water, if you walked straight off the end of the porch and swam straight across the lake (about a mile and a half) you'd end up at my old boathouse.

Or one can simply reach into the freezer in your RV and pull out one of these....sorry, I don't mean to rub this in.

Brent, I ordered them online from Lacrawfish.com. They ship overnight and they actually did arrive still frozen.

I see they have some Chef John Folse items. That should be good stuff. We ate in his place in Donaldsonville before it burned. Really good and really expensive.
Good to know about the place on Kinkaid Lake. Hard to find good places outside of Alexandria. We've been so desperate we have eaten in Coushatta casino. LOL
There is also a café in Lecompte, Lea's?, that has home cooking.
