Fresh Water Tank

Our 2013 Cougar 29 X Lite RET has a problem, so the problem is when we are hooked up to a full hook & city water, water fills into the fresh water tank thus keeping the tank full. So then before leaving we have to drain this tank completely.
It has happened to us 3 x times this summer while camping. We took it in to the dealership, and for some reason they can't duplicate the probelm so therefore they can't replace anything or repair anything.

Personally we thought it was the check valve in the water pump!
Has anyone experienced this situation, and have you found a solution to it.

It probably is the check valve in the water pump. Are you using a pressure regulator on your water input hose? If not, chances are you're overpressurizing the check valve and it's leaking past it. RV plumbing is designed to support 40-60 PSI. Some campgrounds can easily go above 100 PSI during the slow times when only a little water is being used and the campground lines build pressure. Try using a regulator and you'll probably find the fresh tank stays empty.

Just a suggestion, since the dealer cannot duplicate the issue, ask them if you can set it up in front of them so they can see how you set up. Maybe they are taking an extra step they failed to show you during the initial PDI.

Where exactly is the check valve located ... at the pump?

The check valve is a part of the pump. It's not separate or "accessible" by looking at the pump. If you're not using a pressure regulator, it will almost always "leak through". I'd think that with water filling into the FW tank and now that you say the dealer "can't duplicate", they almost certainly use a water pressure regulator. I'm betting that the check valve is being "over-pressurized" and it's most likely your problem.

we already use a pressure regulator at all the campgrounds, we owned a Crossroads trailer and never had this issue with the tanks so this is all new to us since we are now in a 5th wheel! Still searching for the problem!

I had the same problem with my old camper, also used flow restrictor but still had the problem. Flow Jet water pumps have built in regulator rated around 200 PSI but it can still leak at lower pressure. Replaced water pump and never had the problem again. I invested in a good adjustable regulator with gauge and feel better protected in my 2012 X-Lite.
