Hello from Nebraska

We just bought a 2017 cougar 28RKS. We have a 2022 ram with a Cummins to pull it. We haven’t camped for 30 years so I know there’s going to be a learning curve here. It’s gonna be fun. If anyone has any suggestions for camping apps, it would be appreciated. Pulling this and knowing where we can park is gonna be a struggle. Looking forward to all the new info on this site. Thank you. Jan

Hello Jan,

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new-to-you Cougar!

While there might be a learning curve, just make sure you have fun!

Take care!

Welcome to he forum! Yes, things have changed a lot in the last 30 years but towing and backing really haven't. As far as apps I don't use any but I think many members do so they will be able to chime in. Like Gary said just be sure and have fun.

One thing that has changed in the last 30 years is the availability of advanced technology to make camping safer. Two things most highly recommend are a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) to monitor trailer tire pressure and an EMS (electrical management system). Don't confuse the EMS with a surge protector. The EMS does far more than a simple surge protector which doesn't do much for you. If you have questions find the forum that fits the question and fire away.

From Utah.
Congratulations on your return to camping. Our outfit is very similar to yours and one thing I've found is not all campgrounds are set up for our size campers. One big difference is the height clearance. Also an issue is the actual site size. Some parks and campgrounds base their space size on the total length of your outfit. Others just the trailer. Most RV parks have pretty informative web pages with specific site sizes and other specs.
We don't use a specific app but do use https://www.recreation.gov/ when planning to use any Forest Service or National Park campgrounds. Also,https://www.reserveamerica.com/memberSignInSignUp.do for State Parks. It hasn't mattered which state. So far, they seem to all use the Reserve America service. If you are not familiar yet with these two sites I'd recommend giving them a look. RVing has become so popular, getting a campsite requires some long range planning. Up to 6 months in some cases.
Another idea, once I've decided on a campground, I use Google Earth to get a "birds eye" view of the area and specific sites. Hope this helps. I'm sure others will chime in with specific apps for route planning etc.

Welcome aboard! Clearly one big difference from 30 years ago is the growth of the internet. It's fairly simple to drill down into most campground websites and see the size of sites with many descriptions of what's available. Online tools like RV Trip Wizard help with routing, campground specifics and ratings. Many reservations can be made online, while some still require a phone call. All in all, definitely easier than 30 years ago.

Have fun getting out and getting reacquainted with it all!
