You might want to check a couple of upholstery shops around your area. Often they will order foam blocks for a specific reuholstery job and have enough left over to work for you. For them, it's just taking up space that they don't really have and they might sell it to you for a great price, just to get it out of the way..... If there's several upholstery shops around, just measure the foam, give them a call and ask if they might have it in stock. If they do, ask the price, you might find a bargain right next door.
As for cutting/trimming foam, an old electric carving knife is the easiest and quickest way to cut it to size. Practice on the excess before you make the "crucial cuts"... Handling a carving knife to keep a square cut is easy, but usually takes some practice to get it right.....
