Double stick tape for Front Hitch Mirror

On a recent trip my front hitch mirror started peeling off and near came off. I was just going to let it go as I couldnt stop and would replace it later. Well It didnt go all the way and where I was I got a knife and finished peeling it off.

Im cleaning the back of the mirror and the rig, but I need to figure out what to put it back on with.

It was put on with a grey thick kinda hard putty like double stick.

Any Ideas what to put it back on with?

thanks

(Glad I didnt let it go, because they are not to be found).

If you can get both surfaces real clean and flat, I would use a spray adhesive like 3M 777.

Sounds like Eternabond tape!
If you could remove the "top" covering, I bet that would do the job great.

If it were mine, I’d go to an auto parts store and get the 3M tape that is used for auto trim. Easy to use.

I'd use 3M trim tape as well. I've installed a bunch of window rain shields on car/truck doors and as long as bother surfaces are clean they haven't come off in decades. Final clean should be done with alcohol wipes, then press it on as the adhesive is pressure activated.

X3!
3M makes several really strong foam tapes!

Yeah, Whatever the stuff with the red backing used for automotive trim is. It’s used on the window vents, fender flares, fake hood scoops, etc. Holds very well is all weather conditions.

^^ This is the stuff.

Personally, I can't see a thing in that so called "mirror". I'd be tempted to leave it off and replace it with an actual mirror made with tempered glass.

The only thing I’m use the mirror for is getting centered. I can see the kingpin over the tailgate and can tell if I’m centered in the tailgate or off to one side. I can’t actually see the hitch. It helps minimally.

Mine looks like a funhouse mirror.

Sure wish I had sprung for the cargo area camera and the puck system when I bought my truck.
Penny wise and pound foolish...

And plus 1 for 3m double face tape from an old bodyman

This is what holds all the fancy lettering and mouldings to the side of your cars and trucks it's tough cheap easy to handle and just works

Original Liquid Nails. But then, it will never come off. If you need a new mirror some day, just glue a new one on top of the old old. That's what I did when the original one discolored and smoked over, it became useless. The new one had it's own sticky stuff off on the back. Worked very well just sticking on top of the old mirror.

You can go to Napa and ask the counterman for part # 03609 from 3M. That's the same tape used to attach those stick-on vent shades. If you prep the surfaces properly, when it goes on, it STAYS on.
