Rear ac soft start…

I am considering purchasing a SOFT START for my rear Coleman Mach 15 AC unit in my Cougar 316RLS. Any recommendations on brand? SoftStartRV has them but I have also seen that Coleman makes a SoftStart as well for their units ($100 less expensive that SoftStartRV brand).

If the Coleman unit can match the demo shown in the link below then maybe I would consider for the lesser cost.. MicroAir has a good track record with their unit

I prefer the Micro Air Easy Start 364 If you buy it from Micro Start use RVGEEKS as a discount code and safe $25 per unit

Are soft starts primarily for generator applications? Or is there a benefit even without one.

They lessen the start up surge in amperes which can be considerable, so yes.

It can cut the start up surge by as much as 75%

Super non-scientific answer: I sure feels like it. There's no bog down at all when the A/C kicks on now. I don't even realize it's turning on. Seems like that must be beneficial for some part of the electrical system but who knows. I think the primary true benefit comes with generator use.

There is a benefit whenever you have a lower amp source than the "normal" 30-50A shore power sources your trailer was designed for. It means I can run my AC when I want to plugged into a non-30A source. BUT it does not mean much more than that...I generally minimize all AC use at the circuit breakers except what I want to run when running with my small generator/plugged in at home.
