Leaking Exterior Speakers

Hi all,
I have been looking for the answer to this issue for two days.

The issue, my exterior speakers leak rain water when the rain downpours. The rain gutters are too small for huge downpours and the water runs over the awning when it is closed and ends up clinging to the wall and running down the side of the camper. The water runs down to the speaker and goes over it and as the water goes over the speaker, the water deflects into the speaker and ends up leaking into the camper. I just happen to catch it. A puddle piles up on the kitchen counter and that's as far as it goes thank god. There are no weeps holes on the bottom of the speaker.

The speakers are pretty beat, I replaced them. The old speaker paper was separated off the bracket and I can see how the water got past the separated sections. I can see that the speakers had been getting wet for a long time by the faded water-stained speaker paper.

I can't believe I can't find any threads on this or any google searches with the problem.

I would like to find some rain shields for the speakers, the closest I can find is camera shields.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I’d replace them with good marine speakers to start with…check out crutchfield .com…then maybe get a angle spacer to add a little tilt to the speakers..maybe get them on crutchfield also…or different speaker enclosures …seal them up with a bead of silicone

The water was actually running into the grill of the speaker. The silicone seal was not the issue. Thanks for the input, I will check out the speakers you mentioned.

That’s why I said an angled spacer or angled speaker enclosure if your aren’t already angled

Speaker baffles to protect speakers in car doors are very common. Search online or contact Crutchfield as has been suggested. As was suggested, a good weather resistant marine grade speakers will have mylar cones that won't rot as easily as paper cones.

If they cut the entire 6.5 inch hole out of the side of the camper id definitely install them in a exterior speaker enclosure like I posted..cover the old hole with a plastic or aluminum sealed patch ( dicor?) and just have the speaker wire coming through a small sealed hole to the speaker enclosure.
