We have brand new 3121rl Montana, 1st trip , 1st meal in it today, placed hot pan of soup on a hot pad on the table, when done we found the table discolored where the pans were on sitting on hot pads! Anyone else have this issue?
We are about sick over this..

I learned a long, long time ago to never put hot pans on the table, no matter what the surface is. We always use a trivet, not just a hot pad, or a towel. And actually, the trivet we use is a 2x8x14 (or so) piece of lumber and a 1/2 inch sheet of plywood. We also have wooden cutting boards we use. Those boards are part of my lumber supply for he camper, for leveling picnic table, or for use under the trailer tires.

About the only way to fix those spots now, is to sand down the surface and re-stain it, and then re-varnish it. You can also spray paint it, then top it off with varnish. But the finish is ruined. Nothing will bring it back to it's original condition, except sanding and / or re-finishing. I know, I've been an an unpaid carpenter all my life. I've done enough wood working projects, both small and huge to last me 10 more lifetimes!

Next time, put a block of wood between the surface and the pan. Same goes for your counter tops, or you'll have burned spots in them too... regardless of their surface material.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the forums! And congrats on your new camper. Sorry about your hard learning curve here, we all make bloopers with our campers when they are brand new, it seems. It was, maybe the 2nd trip out in ours, brand new, and I clipped the drivers side rear corner of the camper. Put a nice dent there, broke the running light lense and put a few fine-and-dandy scratches on that corner. We were sick too, and really, had no clue when it actually happened. Hard lesson learned. We've all been there, done that.

FYI, you can always throw a table cloth over the table and pretend the scar is not there. Sometimes, covering up our bloopers is all it takes. For my crumpled corner, black spray paint did wonders! Still crumpled. I figure I'd probably do it again, so why fix it or claim insurance on it. It's been 3 years and I'm still waiting for the "big one" so insurance will cover!

Happy camping. Keep smiling!

OP your damage is there. You don't put a hot pan on a countertop, table or anything else in an RV. Real wood? Not really unless you are talking very high end. I built an oak table for my daughter that she promptly put a hot pot on...yes, it will make a mark that requires refinishing (thanks Dad). And please, don't think about putting them on the "hard surfaced, composite" counter tops....plastic....and it melts. Hot stuff stays on a hard surfaced "something" on top of your tables/counters or on the cast iron grates on the cook top.

Look at it this way... I have purchased VERY few new vehicles. First time they are dented it sort of makes you realize you no longer own a new vehicle and you own a used vehicle and subsequent mars, dents and scratches.... oh well. Just adds character. If that table is wood, you can consider getting some sandpaper and Minwax?

We had the same thing happen in 2013 when we bought a new Raptor, From a pizza box of all things. I took the table out before we put it in storage and refinished it over the winter. Welcome from northern MN.

I am in the hotel business and an old trick of ours that works well is to put a towel over the table and iron the area of the stain. It should come right out. Dont leave the iron in one spot move it around in a circular motion. It may take a little while but it should come out.

I have never done what you describe. For my own edification, do you moisten the towel or just use it dry? (In the event I ever want to try it).

I have done it dry. using a little steam from the iron. or the iron dry with the towel being very lightly damp. the other would be (and i know this sounds strange) rubbing toothpaste on it. and rubbing it on and wiping it off. I have not personally tested this one but our housekeeping manager does use it.

You bought it to use, so use it.

As best I can tell, the table will still hold food.

Live and learn.
