Dometic awning motor

Has anyone every replaced the Dometic awning motor with another brand?

The motor on our 2010 Keystone Passport burned out. Unfortunately my husband threw it away for reference. I am just wondering if there is a cheaper way to replace it as currently here in Canada it is about $800 to replace and I do see cheaper ones on Amazon and wonder if the dimensions were right if I could try one of those (around $400).

any suggestions are appreciated.

Sue

If your talking about the motor that slips into the tube, I don’t know if any aftermarket motors.

It depends on brand and model of the awning, but even then it may be difficult to get a perfect match without the old one on hand.

That being said, there is one model that can be replaced with a Chevrolet Lumina electric window motor for about $11 US and is an exact replacement

I believe your thinking of the Solera awning, a Lippert product.

I think Amazon caught on to the Chevy window motor interchangeability with Solara's awning motor... Used to cost about $250 for a replacement awning motor. There are probalby 30 on Amazon now for less than $40.... Likely not "badged Lippert" but as long as they fit and work, much cheaper than an OEM.

Sadly, that won't work for a Carefree or a Dometic awning.

The awning roller tube should have an ID tag on it. Get the part number, model number and serial number from that tag and contact Dometic at their website. Give them that information and ask them for the part number for the correct motor. Then do an internet search using that part number. You should be able to find several places with competitive pricing that's significantly less than the Dometic MSRP.....
