Fridge won't run on gas

Dometic 2652

Fridge runs fine on 120 electric. If I run on gas it starts fine and will run from 4-8 hours on gas then cuts off with the panel check light on. If I turn it off for an hour or 2 it will restart on gas and go thru the same cycle. When it is running on gas the flame looks perfect.

Any ideas?

This is just a guess, but based on what you're describing, it sounds like a thermal relay on the chimney. When you're on the electric element, things work OK. When you switch to gas, the flame is "too hot" (or not properly centered in the chimney) and the thermal sensor "triggers" to shut off the "over temp condition". It "throws a malfunction light" and when you turn off the refrigerator, things cool down, and on restart, it works good, until the "overtemp condition triggers another shutdown"...

I'd first check the refrigerator chimney to make sure the gas flame is centered and that the baffle (the twisting metal plate hanging from the top of the chimney) is in place and not touching the sides of the tube. And, make sure there's no spider webs, dirt dauber clumps or even wasp nests are blocking the chimney. Make sure there's no "carbon/soot buildup in the chimney....

I have tested and tried all the previous suggestions with no joy. Also tested the thermistor in the fridge box, specs call for 7-10 K ohms @32 degrees F. Soaked the thermistor in a solution of ice, water and salt, got 9-9-2 K Ohms Test OK.
I have sourced a replacement control board and will order. Seller says I can return with 30 days. I will report my results.

If you can, get the Dinasour brand, I have had excellent results with almost zero failures.

^^^ I second using Dinosaur brand electronics. If it's not a "free warranty replacement" I always use/recommend changing from OEM brand to Dinosaur brand control boards for furnace, water heater and refrigerator systems.

Reporting a success. replaced the control board and it now will run on gas and stays running. I know some of you prefer another brand but I got a Hercules board on eBay. $55 with free shipping. The cheapest I saw a Dinosaur was more than double that.

Thanks for the update. I hope your board works great for a long time.

I've got NO (ZERO) experience with a Hercules brand control board. It may be a "Goodyear Endurance clone" or it could be a "almost as good as a Trailer King clone"... Hopefully it'll turn out to be a good choice for you. Thanks for the update on getting your refrigerator working again.

Final report. I ran the fridge on gas for 3 days, back to electric for 2 days, then to gas until this AM. Works perfectly. with an empty box 0 degrees in the freezer and 38 in the fridge section.
