suburban sw6de water heater
So I have me a suburban sw6de water heater
electric heating is fine.
but for fast recovery I use both
today flip the switch to turn on LP portion...
I can hear and fell gas solenoids open.
but NO spark/tick to ignite.
Whilst it lets out LP I can use a long lighter to ignite,....but then goes out in 5 or so seconds?
Any ideas?

Are you sure there's adequate propane flow going to the water heater? A "almost empty propane tank can delay triggering the automatic changeover valve and sometimes they "hang up and won't switch"... If you're sure you have adequate propane flow, then clean the burner tube, there may be a spider web or trash impeding the flow of hot gas exhaust. If that doesn't work, clean the ignitor circuit and make sure there's no soot on the ignitor. If that doesn't work, I'd try a new control board.

And before you buy a new control board, remove the igniter/flame sensor. Clean it with WD-40, and put it back in. An old partner swears by it.
On edit: I think there is a 2amp fuse in the bottom left corner, that’s for the sparker. Check it.

I tried cleaning the igniter/sensor
no go.
lower left out outside of unit is a switch for 120VAC bellow the gas valve (no fuse)
electric heats the water...but I can only feel /hear the gas solenoid open.
no spark
but I CAN use a long lighter to light it....but it quickly goes out....(probably not sensing it)
so a new board on order....

If it has a fuse it’s on the control board.
