A red light will come on and you can hear the pilot light light in my camper and the red light goes out. Then I open the hot water tap in the kitchen sink which is closest to the hot water heater and NOTHING WILL come out till the air gets displaced... then a dribble, then a flow. I move toward the front of the camper to my bathroom sink and repeat and then the tub and repeat. It takes quite awhile for all the air to purge. Eventually get hot water. At this point I may or may not turn on the electric heating element; do in the winter but sometimes not in the warmer months. Matter of personal choice.
Can blowing high pressure air thru the lines cause any damage? I know you have the faucets open but is there any check valves or connections that can have a problem if too much pressure is used? We all use a regulator for the water because of high pressure

I use my compressor at 40psi - no issues and no valves on the fresh water inlet.

Yep... well actually 50 psi... and on the Cougar I never used the hot water tank bypass, it was a PITA to get to so I just drained the tank and put the plug back in, then blew all the lines out. Also I only opened one faucet at a time starting with the farthest.

ot a good idea to open the pressure relief valve on the water heater to bleed out the air. Doing so will eliminate the airspace that's designed to allow for expansion of the hot water.
