external speaker extension
Hi all, hope your holidays were fine. I was thinking about using an extension on my external rv speakers by mounting a bypass jack (like on our old stereos) into the outside speaker housing so I can move the sound away from the RV. It seems louder on the inside than out, so my wife can watch TV while I'm still outside. Doesn't seem too hard. Any Comments / suggestions would be much appreciated . . .Thanks

I'm not sure of what you're asking. Do you have the TV on and want the sound outside? Do you want it louder with the outside speakers? Remember that not everyone, maybe no one, wants to hear what you want on your "outside" speakers....I have never used mine at all; I think about those around me....

I would be worried about how to keep water/moisture out of the jacks. How about just using a bluetooth speaker outside when she is watching TV inside?

I have a Dewalt radio I use outside occasionally, also use it to charge my Dewalt batteries.

Hi Sourdough, I wish to have a disconnect / extension for the external speakers so that they can't be heard from inside of the RV while I use the radio / mp3 by moving the speaker position away from the rv wall. Our TV is a stand alone with it's own speaker. I always keep the music at a minimum so that I can only hear it, but even with only the external speakers in use it is louder on the inside than acceptable. I like the external speaker option, but I just might resort to a portable. (more stuff to bring) Thanks for your advice.

Hi WNY Bullet, that thought crossed my mind as well, just kinda fishing for ideas, I like the outdoor speaker feature but might have to bring a portable UGHH! I haven't looked into bluetooth yet, but thanks. Have a great upcoming season to you and all . . . B&T

If bluetooth is an option for your setup, I'd go that way. KIEPSS!
(keep it easy peasy stupid simple)

I just noticed you are not too far from us!
I was wondering if you could pull your speakers and possibly insulate behind them to help block the sound inside? How much room is there behind them?

The speaker enclosure (actually not much more than a plastic cup) helps enhance the bass from the speaker. There's not much you can do to isolate the sound from being heard inside the RV. Actually, the wall becomes a part of the sound transmission: 2" isn't much to "deaden sound"....
So, your DW is going to hear the stereo if you play it while she's inside listening to the TV.
If you've got Bluetooth capability, that's the easiest option, other than using your "tool set FM radio"... You can wire speakers or a junction/connection jacks but even if you do, you're still going to have to buy/build speakers to sit on the table to plug into that connection. So, from a "got to have a speaker set" to get any sound, it might as well be Bluetooth and not have the hassle of wires.

I'm not aware of any device to accomplish your desire. Surface mounting a speaker would leave your original speakers in place unless you remove and patch the hole. Not a desirable look I'm sure.
The only viable option, other than what has been suggested above, would be to remove the speakers and the housing behind them and add some sound deadening mat. There is a spray material made for this purpose as well. Typically these treatments will HELP reduce the sound transmission through the wall but would not eliminate it.

I bought a bluetooth speaker and connect with my cell phone and use one of my music apps like Amazon Music, Pandora or FM radio. A lot easier than RV entertainment systems.

Should not be too tough to do your original idea but make sure you put the jack in a weatherproof box. Other than that the blue tooth idea works if your radio has blue tooth.
