Sprinter 311BHS tub drain stopper fell in?

I was trying to drain the tub yesterday and evidently pulled up too hard. The plastic knob on the tub stopper came off and the shaft it connects to went back down into the drain, now the tub has standing water in it. Anyone know how to get the drain apart?

Can you explain what you have some more. I only have a piece of plastic that you push in with your hand to install and the one piece is too big to fit down. Can you use a screw driver or something to lift it? Maybe a picture will help.
