i have a ? about a starting battery

I have seen the 2 6 volt series setups with the current sensing relay to charge the 1 12 volt starting battery. I have seen 2 12 volt with the same relay and a third 12 volt for starting the generator. so I have 2 questions which is best 2 6 volt in series or 2 12 volt in parallel? and, couldn't you just hook up a automatic battery charger to the starting battery and skip the relay all together?

If you do a fair amount of dry camping, then I would recommend that you go with 2-6v golf cart-type batteries rather than 2 12v's. If you seldom or hardly ever dry camp, then 2 12v would be the way to go. Generally, they are lighter and cheaper and will provide you with enough "juice" to get you through a weekend of boon docking should you decide to go without hookups. Since you already have an onboard generator, you are pretty much set to dry camp anyway.

I don't see any reason why you can't charge the starting battery with a small battery charger but it does mean having to take something "extra" along.
