Generator Problem

I'm having propane delivery problems ever since Ardell Brown/Camping World installed an Onan 5500 watt propane generator. The generator starts up, but shuts off after a few seconds. The indicator on the tank regulator turns red even though both tanks are full. When this happens, the water heater and stove do not work either since no propane is flowing. I've been chasing this problem all summer and Ardell Brown/Camping World has no clue how to fix it. They've replaced the regulator (Marshall Model 250 two stage with auto switching between the two tanks), but the problem persists. I have to carry a gasoline generator to have AC. Very annoying...

I've been told that the ball check valve in the tank connection hose could be limiting the flow when the demand from the generator suddenly increases or that the hose is collapsing inside. Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Propane generator problem

I am always suspicious of those 2 tank red/green regulators. It is possible that it will not deliver sufficient flow for the generator. I would check with an authorized Onan service facility (not CW) as to what type of regulator they specify. You may need to have a separate regulator piped in exclusively for the genset and leave the original for the stove/furnace/HWHeater. The genset may actually have an interna regulator to work off of tank pressure directly.

Let us know what you find.

I agree with Johnnyfry, your propane may be going through two regulators & making the pressure to low to function.
