Victory Over Oxidation!!

Some of y'all have heard me whining about the oxidation on my 5th wheel. The Texas sun and Gulf Coast humidity combine to cook the filon to an ugly flat gray chalky surface. I've had great recommendations from folks here and I've tried some. I've been doing battle for at least 3 years.
But I believe I found the answer. A Porter Cable random orbit buffer, wool pad (twisted yarn, not the straight fine wool) and 3M Marine Restorer and Wax. I have gone over the 3M with Klasse All in One. The Klasse removes the little smudges and hopefully extends the protection life.
It certainly is not a fast process, and I have 1 section of a sidewall left to do, but I think I found the answer for me.
My shoulders are about to fall off, I get leg cramps, my beer intake went up, but I'm happy.

"my beer intake went up, but I'm happy" See what happens when the beer intake goes up?

Brent, what kind of UV protection do those products have? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if rubbing it down with 303 would give you more UV protection. I put it on ours after I waxed it down this time and it may be for nothing but it looked like it had more protection than the waxes. Glad to hear you found something that worked for you - swinging that buffer gets old.

I've been kicking around the 303. I have a small bottle I use on the boat vinyl. The Klasse claims UV protection but a lot of products claim a lot of things. 303 is just wipe on, wipe off isn't it?
Are you using the regular 30320?
I was planning on finishing today but we had a cold front blow through last night. We had a high temp of 54 today. I stayed inside, that's cold! LOL
I switched to Yellow Rose Texas whiskey today. Son gave it to me for birthday. 92 proof, wooo.

I use what I guess is the regular 303 - it has always worked well. It is wipe on, wipe off, but, it takes a LOT of wiping to get it completely off. I don't worry about it anymore. I put it on and wipe it down. If you get it in the sun you might see a little swipe marks but I figure it's OK. When I had wiped down the front cap then had some mud get on it (moved the trailer to pack the bearings), I sprayed it down to rewipe it; the water coming off the front was just white from the coating so it must stick pretty well.

And Brent, it was 86 today!

^^Good info on the 303.
86?? Y'all didn't get the strong front we did? Rained 2" overnight and the wind is straight out of the north about 30mph. Supposed to have a freeze next week.
Bearings. I'm trying to decide if I'm doing them before next summer. I've been telling myself I'm going to replace mine with Timkens.

We're in FL now. A little south of where we usually stay; Crystal River now.

Many waxes, sealants and oxidation removers are petroleum based. Aerospace 303 is a water based polymer. The two don't mix well, so applying 303 to "freshly waxed or polished" surfaces may cause a "gunk" to form and make wiping away excess 303 a difficult/impossible task.

If you're going to apply 303 to waxed or sealed surfaces, it might be much easier to wait a week or so after application of the wax/sealant to allow it to completely dry and "outgas" all of the petroleum carrier before trying to "wipe it off with a water-based polymer. JMHO/YMMV

Spot on! Drove me nuts trying to get 303 to work streak free after i waxed. Finally i regulated 303 to the tonneau cover protectant, life is much more stress free after that...

Once it's clean, why not try either Poliglow or REJEX. Both of them are weather resistant but a 'bear' to apply. The marine wax is weather resistant as well but wont last as long.

Brent, my bad. John is on the money and I just went through this - should have remembered. I did finally get the 303 to work OK but had to wait a week for the wax to air out. Next time I'm going to wait a month or so I figure. On this trip we are going to try to swab down the trailer every 30-60 days with the 303 to hopefully prevent the oxidation/film buildup that occurred last year. Going to try and use a flat headed, swiveling mop setup (sort of like a Swiffer) and microfiber cloths to put it on and another similar setup with dry towels to remove it (hopefully). Trying to prevent the necessity of running the buffer all over it when we get back.

No problem Danny. I'm going to try to finish tomorrow with the 3M. Me and the son kept the babies today while the girls went to the Nutcracker Market all day. All I accomplished today was surfing the internet and changing diapers.
Maybe go over it with the Klasse tomorrow if my arms are still functional. That will be about all I want of it.
How did you get the oxidation off?

I used a heavy duty dual action polisher with Meguiar's 51? wax/restorer. I used a gray/black pad and should have used the blue pad with more stiffness. Oh well, I'll do that next go round - gotta do something to stay fit and trim....

Your nearby Canadian Tire store has these supplies.
You can use a more aggressive pad initially to apply then the wool pad.

Amazon:
3PCS 5" Self-adhesive Woolen Wool Hook Loop Grip Wheel Buffing Pad for Car Compound Cutting Polishing
Sold by: YOMNEE

$19.99 6 inch

I use them to apply and buff and then wipe with a microfiber. I sometimes use a microfiber on a 6 inch random orbit for the final pass.

I had a coating called Perma Plate installed, kind of expensive but it's guaranteed to protect the exterior for 7 years from all weather and bird dropping damage. With it, you don't need any cover, or even have to wax it for the duration of the warranty. It even protects the graphics!
