Cable operated dump valve

Having some issues with my valves, not sure if it's the valve or the cable. Is there a certain type of oil that should use on the cable? How about lubing the gate valve without trying to remove it? I would like to try lubing everything before I attempt to replace that valve.

Most dump valves are activated by either a solid rod or a Bowden cable (think throttle control on a cheap lawn mower). Try a motorcycle brake cable oiler. It should work to lube your cable guide. As for the rubber seals on the slide, cheap olive oil poured into the toilet when it's empty and working the valve will usually coat the rubber seals with oil. A little olive oil in the tanks works wonders, and if you add vinegar, you'll have salad dressing when you arrive at your campground (not really, don't try that)

What? I’ve been making salad dressing that way for years

But seriously, I use valve seal conditioner (cocoanut oil) because I get my stuff cheaper than joe public. Olive oil makes sense, and we use PbBlaster on the cables at work.

I always use Calgon water softener in my black tans in order to keep things nice and slick. I was told it works on the valves and seals the same way.
