Yes, I think most of us do take it off when traveling
Others learn from experience. When I walk around and see Raptors with no ladder, Have to ask "Where is your Ladder" Well used to have one then there was this tree, edge of garage, etc.
Have to admit it is a pain to store in the garage
Our brackets are different so without drilling new holes and patching old we can not easily use the new folding ladder
However a couple years ago some of us discussed other options such as hanging the ladder off the back ramp while traveling. All you need is to buy the standoffs and screw them into the ramp. Ladder will hang on the same support on the roof and does clear our rear awning. I bought standoffs but did not get up the nerve to drill into the ramp
I have not seen that member post recently that suggested and implemented this. A search should bring up pictures as well as part numbers. If I did it I would not climb on the roof while ladder attached to the ramp, although he claimed it was strong enough. One of these days when I poke something/somebody putting that big ladder in the garage you may hear a drill
Oh others have cut ladder in half and installed pins
