Dometic Leak

Well, this month marks 4 years of ownership of our Cougar. The Dometic 310 toilet has always worked flawlessly - no leaks or squeaks. Suddenly, the toilet is leaking between the bowl and the plastic pedestal. The toilet seemed to be loose at this connection -you could feel some movement. Toilet was tight at the floor connection. Searched the forum and read several threads about this issue. Read the online manual which states that the two halves should never be separated. Removed and inverted the toilet to see if the screws holding the halves together were tight - seemed to be. When I inverted the toilet about 2 quarts of UGLY, NASTY liquid ran out of the pedestal. Apparently the toilet has been leaking for awhile and we didn't see anything leaking until the cavity between the inner and outer walls of the plastic pedestal became full and overflowed down the sides of the pedestal and onto the floor around the base. Such FUN!
Well, I took the toilet apart (4 long machine screws) and learned that there is a really thin foam gasket between the halves that has become so compressed that it will no longer seal. Thought about using RTV and gluing everything together, but the inside of the pedestal is nasty beyond belief and given that there is no way to tell if the leak has actually stopped until the inner cavity fills up, we've decided to go with a new toilet on sale at Camping World. I wonder why these inner seals can't be purchased?

I have the same issue and my toilet is still under warranty. I just got off the phone with Dometic and they are shipping a new toilet for me to install. No hassle at all. They told me to keep the old toilet for spare parts.

Thanks for the response. Our's is out of warranty, but, I might just call Dometic - nothing to lose but a few minutes.

Well, called Dometic and nol joy. Two years out of warranty. Bought a new 310 from CW for $180 - problem solved, at least until this one leaks.

The toilet we replaced was a 310 - ceramic bowl. It leaked where the bowl attaches to the pedestal. Replaced it with the same model - fingers crossed

They probably could be if the seal was provided to Dometic from an outside source, if you knew what the source was. The seal is probably made in-house and Dometic can make more money selling an assembly than they can selling replacement parts, especially one that doesn't wear out very often. I'm sure a good bead of RTV would have sealed it up, but like you said, why take the chance.

Had the same problem with the same model toilet. Being replaced under warranty thru my dealer. Hope the replacement toilet is an updated one to fix the issue.

Man in searching this problem it is rampant. Anyone know if Dometic has addressed this issue as a product design flaw. Has anyone tried drilling weep holes into the cavity from the inside? So that held fluid would find a way out and into the holding tank. I haven't see the pedestal with the bowl removed so I am only guessing.
I now have the same issue with this nasty smelling leak and researching for a cure. Looks like replacement is the only answer

RTV silicone is about 1000 times superior to a foam gasket. I'd have cleaned it up, used silicone and had better confidence in my repair than a simple replacement of a known poor design.

So let me ask. Is there a better RV Toilet on the Market? If so what is it? Has anyone had the replacement toilet fail as well?
