When I was in college I worked as a porter at a car dealership. One of my jobs when prepping cars for a test drive was to let air out of the tires to 24PSI. At the time, most tires were being run at 30-32 PSI. The soft tires really made a "mid size Torino" ride as smooth as a "full size Galaxy 500". Then when bought, we'd air the tires to factory specs and almost always had complaints asking, "What did you do to my car? It rides so rough." That was during the "heyday" of bias ply tires.
When I bought my current F250, the first thing I did before the test drive was check tire pressures. Rear tires were aired to 40 PSI and fronts were 50 PSI. That would surely have helped it ride like a half ton, but after airing the tires, it rode like a truck should.
