Generator shuts off

Just returned from a 6 day trip at the coast. On the 3rd day of our trip the generator just cut off. Would not start back up. After about 6 hours we started it again and it ran ok for the rest of that day. We checked the oil, it was ok. We had plenty of fuel, then after about running for about an hour it cut off again by itself and would not start back up right away. We just stopped using is period. I have a back up generator for times like this. Does anyone have an suggestions to what could be the problem?

If it is one of the construction or farm type it may be an overheating issue. Seen several have that issue. Maybe just run it for a shorted period?

There have been a few others that have had a similar problem. They were having a problem with the exhaust heating the intake air and causing the generator to overheat. They had to add a baffle to help separate the air.

Here is the thread :

Will check out the link, the generator is a Generac Generator. It is the one that came with the Toy Hauler. I did read on the trouble shooting guide that there could be an airflow problem making it over heat. Our ply boards we put around the trailer to keep the sand from blowing under it could have gotten put in the way of the exhaust. Would this constrict the airflow making it overheat?

I believe that is what is happening. The boards are restricting the air flow under the trailer. This would cause heat to build up and would cause the generator to overheat.

You may be able to put some louvered vents in the boards that would help with the air flow and still keep the sand out.
