Can't answer your first question but in regards to the second...... There have been quite a few members who have made this thermostat conversion. If you so a forum search, you will find numerous post/threads about this topic. It has been discussed quite thoroughly off and on for quite some time.

The Hunter digital thermostat, along with Honeywell, seem to be popular choices.

Try a search of the forum. You will find plenty of information, complete with photos and other links, about this conversion.

There is a pretty good information section at the dinosaur website. Here's the link for the actual website: http://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/index.htm

What you're looking for is the Cross Reference Table, which is here: http://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/UIB_Chart.htm

Get the information on your furnace, you'll find the exact match in that table.
