Slide-Out Spring on Wiring

While driving, the spring broke and when I got to the campsite the wires had been rubbed through on the tires. I had to splice them together and when I put the slide in I have to bungee them to keep from dragging.

I bought a spring at Ace that is for screen doors but it appears to be too strong.

Can someone please tell me how the wiring is supposed to be routed and how to hook it up so the wiring will extend and retract when I use the slide-out? Thanks

It’s all in angle. Retract the slide, attach the spring about 1/2 way down the wiring. Then pull just enough tension to hold it and attach to the body.

You can go back t o ACE hardware, return the screen door spring and go to the back of the store to the "nuts, bolts and screws section. Along the back wall is a spring rack. On that rack will be springs from 200 pounds of pull down to 10 pounds of pull. They come in varying lengths. You'll probably find a 10 pound pull spring about 10-12" long with a diameter of about 3/4". A screen door spring from the door hardware section (where the hinges are located is the wrong section of the store for what you need.

Additionally, most RV parts stores have "wiring loom extensions" that support the wiring in a folding harness. It will prevent the wires from drooping and is easy to install. The only drawback is they cost about $25. The spring from ACE is about $2.

As the other poster stated the screen door spring is too strong.

This is how the wires and propane line are attached to the spring on my slide. Make sure they are not being kinked when the slide is closed. It may take more than one try to get them arranged so they don't get smashed or kinked.

The Lippert Flex Guard is probably what came on your trailer. They do break. The replacement is very easy to put on and puts things "back like they were". Here is a link;
