Mammoth caverns

We're thinking of visiting Mammoth caverns this year but only have time to do one section. What are your reccomendations for which part to do and where to stay to do that. We have an Outback 272UFL TT and would prefer FHU if possible, or power and water only would be good.

We just returned from Mammoth Cave Natl Park yesterday. We did two tours, a four hour Grand Avenue and a two hour Historic. Saw a lot of cave with the Grand Avenue and it included many parts of cave seen on other tours, but you do miss the 'natural entrance' where it all started, as your are bused to/from some man made entrances.
The Historic tour does use the natural entrance. From what we saw we would skip the Historic tour and do the self-guided Discovery tour if the natural entrance was important. Looks like most of the tours concentrate on one or two areas. Depends on your interest. Tours were all sold out the days we were at the park so advance reservations are certainly recommended.

We stayed at Singing Hills RV park. It is about two miles outside the entrance of the park. Small, quiet RV park. Does have full hookups available and many pull-thru sites. Gravel sites, not overly large or shaded. Standard fire pits and picnic tables. Water was useable but very 'hard'. (It is a limestone area.) No pool, playground, etc, but there was a fishing pond. Not fancy, very adequate and
convenient to the park. We got a nice military discount.

Diamond Caverns RV Resort and Golf. Nice park, full hookup, gravel road and lots, pool, activities, and very friendly hosts'. They are located about 5 miles or so from the cave and also have a diamond cave tour themselves. If your into golf, they also have a course across the road, and offer a nice discount. Not a championship course by any means, but fun.

It's still a few months away and I'm excited about the mammoth riding more then any other area. There are so many links It would a lot of visiting see it all. It looks like all the parks are resaionable priced . The big attraction are the many tours available in the area .

We just returned from there last month, was there for a week for daughters spring break. Stayed at Jellystone in Cave City - real nice, lots of new builds and real close to everything.

We did the Lost River Cave tour (best guides), Mammoth Onyx Cave which was in a kangaroo park (KY Down Under) and the Hidden River Cave. All were good.

Down the road from the RV park was KY Action Park. Got a 3/4 mile zipline there which was a real good time, especially for a 1st timer like me.

Plenty to do in that area we will definitely head that way again.

We stayed at Cave Country RV when we visited the area a few years ago. It was easy access off of the interstate and about 10 minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park. They do accept several Membership Discounts.

Enjoy your visit to the area it is beautiful.

Thanks all who contributed. We will look into all of the reccomendations you gave. We head off for the US on the 7th July and are heading direct to Oshkosh. Then we'll loop back around through this area via Niagara Falls, Gettysburg, Dayton and wherever our noses lead us.
If anyone else is going to Oshkosh we might catch up and share an adult beverage or two.
