Best Tires for Tow Vehicle
I'm wondering what the "average " milage you are experiencing on a new set of TV tires. I realize there are many variables such as gvwr, speed, etc. However, I'm ready for new tires on my RAM 3500 that I pulled a 34' Montana approx. 12k trailer weight and only have 22,000 miles on tires. They are BF Goodrich tires and came stock with new truck. Now have a new Alpine, heavier unit, and getting ready for a five month trip. Any suggestions on good long lasting safe tires?

The least miles I've ever gotten with Michelin LTX tires is about 55,000. Usually upwards of 60K or more. That's on 4 trucks three SuperDuty and one F150. When this set (they're the OEM Michelins) wear out, I'm replacing them with another set of Michelin LTX's.

I have always had good luck with Michelin in the past also. Will most likely go that route again. Thanks for your input.

Same here with LTXs. Usually between 50 and 60K and my friends are waiting for my discards. I also run their XPS Ribs on the 5r too.

What John and Hank both said. Our last set of Michelins LTX got about 68K. Would have been more except one right front had an odd wear pattern. I might add one of my new trucks came with BF Goodrich and it was ready for new tires in 24K. No more BF Goodrich for me EVER!

I always ran Michelin LTX tires and loved them. The last time I decided to try Cooper Discoverers because of the price and I like them more. Right now based on the current wear, they should do as good or better than the LTX for about 2/3 the cost. Maybe not that big of a difference on a standard truck, but with a dually it's like getting 2 tires free.

To add to this I have a question about load ratings. I compared the Michelin LTX tires to several other brands on TireRack, my stock 20" Perellis are rated at 2,435 lbs, and the load rating for Michelin LTX is 2,535 lbs. While most others are 2,833 lbs. I'm not questioning Michelin's dependability, but wonder if a higher load rated tire would be better for towing?

Typically yes. The higher load rating tires usually have a stiffer sidewall which has less flex and more stability when towing. 20" wheels typically have a low profile sidewall so they don't flex much anyway so the difference may be minimal.
