Knight Rider

This might seem a little silly, but here it goes

I am a child of the 80's and grew up watching Knight Rider. I of course loved the car Kit. If you remember Kit had a light bar at the front that made a sound and went back and forth. Here is the serious stuff We purchased a new Outback 296 FRS. At the front it has an LED light bar just like Kit! Except ours is blue. Any ideas how to get it to go back and forth like kit?

Be careful about that. DOT says front lights can be clear or yellow only. Here in Oregon no blue lights seen turned on or off on any vehicle unless police or fire truck. No flashing lights of any color allowed unless turn signals or 4 ways when parked. I did give 1 ticket to a KIT car with the flashing red light in the front years ago after stopping the same guy several weeks earlier and informed him of the law, as normal as most warnings went, he get not care until it cost him.

This would be on a parked RV in campground? It's not a running light or anything. Is that still illegal? It only can turn on with a switch outside the camper.

Good question and it would only be illegal on a public road. Parked in any private property DOT laws would not apply. Maybe check with your state about the display of blue lights on private property. Here it would be OK. I checked once regarding a farmer who had blue lights on his Hummv patroling his fields at night. OK as long as the blue lights were off and covered if he drove on public roads.
My first post I thought you were pulling it on public roads with the light on, Sorry.

Ken/Claudia - I should of worded it differently in my post. It is still good information for myself and others to know that it could be illegal using this or something like it while driving. I will post a picture of what is on there currently. It's more like a LED light for hitching up at night I think. Or just an add on because it looked cool.

Sounds fun to have on while at camp. I cannot help with making it flash, good luck.

These blue LED strip lights are very popular and Keystone isn't the only ones that use them. I have seen the single strip in the middle and two shorter strips nearer the edges and at the bottom of the front cap.

I have no idea how a person would make them flash back and forth as I am not an electronic guru.

I did watch an episode of Fast n Loud where they built a KIT car. As I remember, the light bar across the front had multiple bulbs. I suspect each bulb was on its own circuit and a "repeater" of sorts energized them. Since the LED strips are a single circuit I am thinking it's not possible. But then it's possible that I'm in the dark about these things.

The biggest problem is that the strip lights are wired in series. To make a wig wag out of them you need wiring to each individual LED.

Your best bet will be to replace LED light with one that 'scans'. I have seen them on eBay but it's hard to say if they will fit properly. Cool idea!
