monitor panel

need some help. We have a 2012 Cougar. The monitor panel is reading incorrectly. All tanks have been drained. The grey tank is still showing 1/2 full, the black is showing 3/4 full. This issue has just started. We have read the manual on this issue and everything it suggests, we have already done. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it possible the panel is bad?

Chances are it's simply debris build-up on the sensors - not an unusual problem. Grease & food particals can in cause inaccurate readings on the gray/galley tank readings.
Typically, on the black tank it would be a piece of toilet paper (or black tank waste) causing the problem. There's lots of good info & remedies already on the forum...
try a search using the words: black tank -or- tank sensors.

Fill the tanks about a 1/4 full of water, add a 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of your favorite liquid dish soap, hook up to the trailer and tow it around for an afternoon then dump the tanks and flush them by filling and emptying them until satisfied they're clean..

I do this on the way home from a camping trip and then flush at the first opportunity after getting home.

I also add 2 bags of ice to the black tank. For 3 bucks not sure it helps alot but, been doing that for 10 years or so.

X3 the tanks just need some detergent, agitation and flushing. I don't even pay attention to my gauges. After the first flush with a clean black tank, my gauge always says 3/4. Just the way it is. My 2 cents.

A lot of people do nothing. It either fixes itself or if you fix it the problem returns a trip or two later. After awhile you will learn when to dump without the sensors. We had a trailer for 11 years that did not have sensors so we had to figure out when to dump.

Howdy All;

I'm firmly convinced that there are only 2 ways to accurately
determine the levels in the tanks. Listed in order of preference
they are;
* Create a dipstick system.
* Stick you head in there and look around.

PS. If you opt for the 2ed. choice be sure to take a flashlight.

I was thinking of a 3rd way for the black tank. Pick up an inspection camera and stick it down the hole. Zip tie it to your rinsing wand and you can see the **** fly as you rinse your tank.

I gave up looking at the levels except the fresh water.

What about gray water?

Good ideas for checking the levels on the black water. My trailer's gray water tank has been incorrect since day one a month ago. How can I manually check it? I know of no opening besides the drain. Camping World tried to charge me $200 to tell me there is nothing wrong when I can prove there is by adding 15 gallons after the gray water indicator reads full on a 43 gallon tank.
