Stained ceilings

I have noticed yellow stains appearing in the ceiling if our 2009 Everest 5th. They seem to be in a line across the ceiling which might indicate bleed-through of glue. Is this a common occurrence and is there a particular product that could be used to remove these stains without damaging the ceiling. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site

I know when I found some stains on our 5th wheel I got on the roof and had a leak around the AC on the roof.

Hope you do not have the same.

Could you post a few pics for us to see.

We had similar stains appear in certain areas of our '08 Cougar. The staining seemed to be wherever some staples were used to fasten the luan ceiling panel to the roof. My take on this is that the staples reacted with the filler and what you see is actually rust. The staining was not due to a leak.

The stains were very hard to see but I knew they were there and that was enough to bother me. I found that a combination of using Kilz white flat paint worked after using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on them. You have to be careful with both so as not to make the repair more visible than the stain.

While the fix wasn't "perfect", it made me feel better and no one else has ever noticed it.

We believe you are correct because that is exactly what it looks like to us. We will try your recommendation to solve our unsightly ceiling lines. Thanks!

I Have the same Problem

Festus2
My 2010 Montana first appeared to have a similar ceiling problem last fall if you looked hard at one spot. I figured a Bug may have been swatted there. A month ago more spots were appearing. Now the ceiling quite spotted. I agree it is a staple problem.
Painting is a torture to me and at the present time I'm unable to work over my head.
Did the natural color of the Kilz seem to match or what MFG., Paint Code and texture may Keystone have used on my 2010 Montana? I want to have the correct materials on hand so when the louvers, lights and such are returned, the ceiling the project is done.

I had the same problem with my '07 Cougar. It seems as if they used a filler putty on the staple holes. I also used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to gently remove the excess discolored putty around the staple leaving just a small dot in the hole. I now have a hard time finding the spots and I know exactly where they are. If I start getting nightmares about the spots I may use "White Out" correction liquid or a white paint pen to put a dot on each one. Because of the texture of the ceiling you will never see it if the dots are small enough. JM2¢, Hank

Overall, I am satisfied with the "fix". We will never be able to find out any specs of the ceiling paint used by Keystone as people have asked for wiring and plumbing schematics to no avail. I wouldn't waste my time and effort trying to find out as I already know what their response will be.

As I said earlier, the match isn't perfect but the "spots" don't stand out as much as before and you have to look pretty hard to see them. It's one of those annoying things that almost no one will notice --- except yourself!

I'd work on one or two spots that are in a bit of an inconspicuous area of the ceiling and try those before proceeding with any more. If you have spots in the toilet area - start there.
Take your time and be careful when rubbing the spot with the Magic Eraser. Before applying the Kilz, have a look at the result of the rubbing with the Eraser. If you are lucky, this may all that is needed.

I hope your repair goes well. Let us know how it goes.

I used the Kilz flat spray. Spray some paint on a "pallet" of some sort (not on the spot) and then brush on with a small, fine paint brush.
