Cowabunga!!!

Well, the wife and I pulled the trigger on a 2021 Cougar 29BHS. Following several suggestions on this forum, we did an inspection, had several items corrected, and stayed in the RV on Crestview RV of Georgetown's property last night. It was awesome. Even with the front that blew in, we only had to turn of the fireplace to keep toasty warm.

We've also found a lot of information on a local RV site through Facebook that has been very helpful.

Since this is our first RV, we have several (hundred, lol), questions about everything RV. So far, this has been an extremely helpful forum. Thanks to all who provide tips/tricks to us newbies.

Congrats. Looks nice.
Upgrade tires, unless they're goodyear or carlisle radial trail. Also upgrade to HD shackle and wet bolt kit. An ems hardwired or portable.
Happy

Congrats on the new trailer, it looks great! We all had our first RV once and back when there wasn't an internet, forums, etc. Sort of learn by the seat of your pants so don't hesitate with questions or concerns - much easier asking here than learning "the hard way".

Suggestion... find the website campgroundreviews.com and check out the camp grounds through that site. We just got back from Johnson Creek RV Resort just outside Ingram and found it through that site and RV Life e-magazine. It is rated #1 small resort RV park in Texas. You might also consider finding the Texas Campgrounds website and apply for a TACO magazine which will contain a TACO 10 percent off discount card for use at participating parks. We are members of Passport America where participating parks give a 1/2 price discount for a varying number of days (depending on the park). Good Sam also has a camping club that offers discounts at participating parks. There are plenty of ways to make camping more affordable. Good luck with your new camper!

George, thanks for the tips. Campgroundreviews.com has been amazing. We've just come back from an overnight trip, just to get used to it, and have planned several others through that website.

Ok I'll ask for them, as this one went right over my head- what do all those words and acronyms mean?

Your leaf springs are suspended on H shaped brackets that pivot. These are shackles. The wet bolts are those that have zirc fittings for greasing them to extend life and limit wear. HD shackles are heavy duty. EMS is ELECTRICAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. An EMS should not be confused with a surge protector which essentially doesn't do much of anything near as I can tell. The EMS protects against voltage surges, low voltage, messed up wiring in the camp power pedestal, etc. It will shut off power before your expensive electrical stuff gets fried like your converter, A/C and the like. The one to own is made by Progressive or Southwire. Some are hardwired inside your camper adjacent to your converter and some hang from the power panel box on a campground pedestal and you plug your camper into it. I have that type as I have had quite a few campers and my EMS is easily portable. The inside unit protects your power cord and some have gauges inside the camper and some are bluetooth for alerting you when there is a problem. Last campground I was at, the campground 30A breaker had a poor connection and my EMS caught it before my stuff was damaged and they came out and fixed the issue immediately.

HD shackles are Heavy Duty shackles that hold your leaf springs to the trailer. Heavy duty meaning they are considerably thicker, thus stronger.
A wet bolt kit is referring to the bolts that go through the shackles. The original equipment is a plastic sleeve (yes plastic!) over the shackle bolts. The wet bolts are greaseable and lubricate the void between the bolt and sleeve.
EMS is Electrical Management System. There are 2 styles. One is hard wired in your coach, the other style is portable and plugs into the campground power post and then you plug into the EMS. The EMS will shut power to your RV if it senses low voltage. high voltage, open neutral/ground, and maybe more.
The wet bolt kit, HD shackles, and the EMS should be must haves right after you decide to keep or replace the factory tires.
Welcome from Southeast Texas.

What they said
For this type of equipment upgrade.
There are many You tube videos on what this type of job entails.
It helps if you're handy, or you can have a shop do it for you.
I have done this to two different RV's and on both occasions the holes in the shackles were elongated.
