Door Holder Install?

Hello all. I am looking for any advice on changing out the door strut on out Keystone Hideout 260LHS and replacing it with a exterior door holder. I hate the door only opening 90 degrees.
I have a door holder assembly but have not been out to the camper at the storage site to see if I can locate a stud in the proper place. Not sure what I will find on the door either. Anyone else done this? Any advice?
Thanks

Have done it. Did not worry about finding stud. Just had to align the two pieces to hold door. Two years old, no sign of stress on the trailer exterior fiberglass wall.

Thanks for the reply.
So you just ran the screws into the wall where you wanted? I assume you sealed them? My exterior is aluminum so I'm not sure it would be that easy.

FWIW
On my previous trailer,
As luck would have it, there were no studs where needed
so I mounted my door holders with 2- 1/4" toggle bolts on each holder

Did the job for the 4 yrs I owned the camper

Good luck with your installation

Just put it where we wanted it. You don't want it in to far. You have to be able to easily reach it to latch and unlatch it.

Thank You both for your replays. Might get out to try it tomorrow. I'll try to get back and post my findings.

I'm not a fan of those positive lock latches. Replaced too many after someone tried to close the door and they didn't realize the door was latched and either broke the latch or pulled one side out of either the door or outside wall. Replaced mine with a plunger type. They come in different angles and lengths for the plunger to fit any application.

Holds as well as the other type and won't ruin the latch, door or wall when the door is unexpectedly closed. The only thing is that you might have to replace the rubber catch in 5 years, as either the rubber hardens or the opening expands and won't hold as well as new.

I think your right that might be a better way. Sure would beat having to go down the steps at night to unlatch before going to bed.
Does the wind still close it sometimes ?

Never had a problem with the wind and the door. As I said before, you might have a problem after the rubber hardens or the opening expands, but that's an easy replacement. If the wind blows hard enough to pull the door and plunger from the rubber catch, all that will happen is the door will slam shut. If the same thing happens with the positive locking system, at minimum you'll be repairing 4 stripped out screw holes...maybe worse.
