Gave it a sunshade to keep the front (southern end) from getting a sunburn.

Were you finding it eating your battery charge? This is on my list as well, but since adding the solar it's not been a priority. Curious to see if you get freezing door seal issues. I guess you could run it for an hr a day or so if needed.

Solved my issue with too many devices and cables

I built a console that cradles nicely on my dash. I've mounted my GPS, Observation Camera Monitor, and TPMS into a single cluster. This allowed me to manage all of the 12v cables underneath and plug them all into a multi-outlet hub also mounted underneath. Cleans up my dash and simplifies the cables that were running everywhere down to just one cable.

I can easily see and manage all of these while driving

Slick idea. How do you keep it from moving on the dash

Here are a few more pics. Not all dashes are the same. Mine happens to have a little tray above the radio. I built the console with a foot that fits in it. It's own weight just holds it there.

Other pics also show how I set it up underneath. Not pretty but functional.

I like the idea and it looks great. I think I would at least screw it into the dash in a few spots. In even a minor collision, it could fly off and cause injury to you or a passenger.

Screwing it to the dash will leave holes that might not be a "good thing"...

I'd look at some of the "permanent until you pull it off" type of tape or adhesive paste rather than holes in the dash. There's everything from "hold bricks together, then pull the tab" to "make a boat with chicken wire" adhesives, many of which are easily removeable when no longer needed.

Yeah, I thought about some way to anchor this thing but definitely didn't want to put screws into the dash. I did think about the removable tapes or velcro but I also wanted this system to be able to be removed when not in use. We don't full time. This set up allows me to simply unplug and put away until the next trip. I had thought about a small bungee that could hook into the defrost vent further forward. I still may do that but thought I'd use it as is for a while to see how it performs before adding to it.

I didn't want something that was so bulky that it looked hideous sitting on the dash but also wanted to build it with enough weight to make it sit with stability. I think, for my use, I've accomplished that so now time will tell.

One of the fun things about this forum is the various ways folks solve problems. This is my first pass on this kind of solution (kinda made it up as I went) but I think it landed at a pretty functional spot. I'm curious now to see if someone else solves their crowed dash problem by improving on this "design" (I use the word loosely) or has an even more functional solution. Please share

Looks great.. how much heat is generated from the junction box? Should it have ventilation? Edit I see the ends are open ... is there a standoff on the junction?

I think it should breathe OK. You're right...it's pretty open all around. What's a standoff? You mean at the 12v hub?

A standoff or spacer between the junction box and the plywood... so if it is getting hot it isn’t against the wood ...probably not needed I just wasn’t sure how hot that thing gets

Got it. Then yes, I used the included 2-sided tape to attach in addition to the mechanical attachments. The tape is about 1/16" thick. I don't really know how hot it gets but will keep an eye on it. It is supposed to have electrical and heat protections built in.

It is a nice looking setup.. I have 2020 ram 3500, the forward windshield mounted collision radar obscures the windshield a little and i found that putting my garmin 785 on the dash creates a blind spot. I may make something like this or get a articulating arm to mount it just above the dash

I replaced the wiper seals on my Bullet Premier 26RBPR extremely easy. You can do all four vertical seals in 20 minutes. A screwdriver and a hammer are all you need. They are pinched at the bottom, use the screwdriver to spread the track and pull it down. Lube the new one up with seal lubricant pull it up and tap the track to capture it.

Looked at it as I was brushing the snow from the windows of my truck on my way to work. While at work, dropped some serious coin to upgrade my boondock electrical system. Bought two 6 volt battery boxes and two 6 volt golf cart batteries. I'm replacing nearly new group 24 deep cycle batteries that came with the coach. While doing my research, the group 24 batteries are rated 130 minutes at 25 amp draw. the 6 volt golf cart batteries are rated at 132 minutes at 75 amp draw. I figured I would bite the bullet before I retire at the end of next month and give up my employee discount.
