Addition of 2nd Battery

Hello All,

Just purchased a new 2015 Cougar 301SAB. Our previous 5'er had a dual battery set-up, but were mounted in a vented storage area on the outside of the trailer. I would like to add a second battery to this one. There is a single battery box mounted in the front storage compartment of the rig with a vent tube. Has anyone tried to "y" into that vent tube with the second battery in order to prevent drilling a second hole into the rig.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yup, it's easy to do, but trying to find the correct diameter "T" fitting is a challenge. I used some 1/4" closed cell foam weatherstripping on mine.

Here's a picture.

Helped out a fellow camper this weekend. Used 2006 5'er first time out for him. He got it last fall from camping world and last weekend was the first time they used it. Bottom line, the converter wasn't charging the one battery for some reason. Lights inside worked but started dimming at night. By the mid morning the heater fan was making 'horrible noises'. He had enough juice to get the bedroom slide in but the battery died. We plugged the camper back into his tow vehicle and let it run for an hour to allow him to get the other slides in. Showed him the harness I made for adding a second battery. His current setup looks just like the picture above.

Adding a second battery for a fifth wheel is a must if you are ever going to dry camp. I can't imagine cranking in three big slides by hand. He's going to a dealership this week to have them see what's up. The battery was new last week and we didn't have any way to diagnose the problem at the campground.

Dealer installed ours, hose adapter is screwed into original battery box.
Second battery vents to first box.

Interesting set up. I guess the white box has an inlet, but the black box doesn't?
I just replaced my single battery box with a dual battery box.
Here is a link to that conversion:

It's the same NOCO box that I've got. You can get the information here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o07_s00''

When I bought mine in 2013, it costs $68. I guess everything is going up.....

I got the NOCO battery box from All Battery Sales and Service. Way cheaper than Amazon. Just got a jug of Wet & Forget shower cleaner from the local hardware store for $2 less than Amazon. It pays to shop around.
