I had that precise thought yesterday, up to and including the mesh, and gave it some serious consideration before proceeding with the flashing. I took note that -- except for the hole Mickey obviously dug through it afterwards -- all the openings I was flashing had been packed with insulation at the factory, so I'm thinking the engineers didn't worry too much about venting that area. Also, as I mentioned, I placed aluminized Camco shields in the two door panes several years ago, which should have produced a similar effect. In fact, there was a bit of bezel meltage, but at the very bottom, where it turns out the reflected sunlight focused onto the window frame, not at the top where you would expect heat damage to start; and it was trivially corrected by taping a slim strip of aluminum foil on the bottom part of the bezel.
I'll be keeping in eye on it as summer shows up, and if I start to see trouble, I'll just lower the garnish and have at the flashing with a suitably largish common nail.
