Diesel fuel economy

My 06 Dodge Cummins quad,auto,LWB,4:10 gears gets about 18 mpg empty. Pulling my Raptor 299 which is aboud 11,000 lb gets about 10.7 mpg 60-70 mph down the highway. Anyone heard with the add on programers eg Edge, Bully Dog, etc really improving fuel economy? So far I understand you really can crank up the power but that does not interest me lest I see some pay back with more mpg.

some controllers claim to boost mpg but my theory has always been "You have to feed the ponies!" I will admit that my '04.5 does get better mileage towing than my '94 and it has twice the hp . But the '94 did better solo. The biggest factor I have found has been speed which with more power is easier to maintain. So ....... I'm confused.

i have a 06 dodge 3500 with a 3:73 i have put on a few banks parts i get 25 mpg empty and 16 pulling a 355fwbhs about 13000 lbs

It seems I need to do some research, can not expect to get quite the same mileage with my gears as Jeff, but it would seem there is room for improvement!

Those lower gears are going to hurt when solo, but may help towing if you can find the right speed. My '94 had a 3.54 rear and gave me a solid 26 mpg hwy solo and only 16 city and 13 towing. My '04.5 with 3.73 gets 23-24 solo hwy(if I behave) , 19 city and on four 1250 mi. trips averaged 16.8 towing a heavier trailer. So it seems to me the hp and lower gears help city and towing but lose hwy. This said I may consider a controller or bigger injectors someday if I plan to tow more mileage. JM$.02 Hank

I have the Bully Dog Power Pup on my D-max and it did help with mileage. As long as you dont get heavy footed. Since RV tires are normally rated to 65mph max I keep my towing speed to 60 most of the time.

We tow at about 63-65 mph.
We tow a 11,000 fiver.
We get about 12.5 towing.
We are currently on west coast and have mostly been doing
mountains.
Our mileage is a little better not towing, but not by much.
My DH did have a chip in it for a while but when we started
towing full time he took it off. It was fun, he said, as he could
smoke the tires at will - but not something we need when towing.
We tow full time now and only problem for us is we need different
gears. Our 3:73's are awful in the mountains. We go up SO slowly
sometimes it feels like we're barely moving.

Anything above 10 mpg while towing 11,000lb+ trailer to me is not bad, but then again, i'm easy to please.

i ve put on the banks cold air intake ,the inner cooler intake and the banks monster exhusts on my 06 dodge 3500 and it help out a lot on mine

I have a 3/4 ton, 2008 Mega Cab, 6.7L CTD with a 68RFE auto, 4X4 with 3:73 gears. I am using a Smarty on power level 3 with a 5" TBE and the EGR system blocked.
I am pulling a 2010 318SAB Cougar and my total GCVW for both truck and 5er is 18,240 LBS. I tow at 60 to 65 MPH.
My mileage is hand calculated at every fill up, with my normal mileage around town between 13 and 14 MPG and on the highway it is around 18 MPG with out the 5er. When pulling my 5er I get around 13 MPG.
