Smile Diesel torque vs. Gasoline torque

Diesel engines and gasoline engines do differ in where maximum torque is output. Diesels tend to have lower RPM/high foot-pound torque ratings while the gasoline engine needs to be wound up to higher RPM to get its maximum torque rating. In my own warped mind, I see diesels as the oxen or mules of today's caravans, while the gasolines are the horses. Yes, you can pull a Conestoga wagon with horses, but oxen were actually more efficient. Wells Fargo didn't use oxen for their light-weight stages because who would pay $1500 in 1870 dollars to be pulled across the Butterfield Stage route at 3 mph? An we Boomers never saw the Old Ranger or Ronald Reagan talk about "Twenty Horse Team Borax".

Who else has nicknamed their vehicles? People do it all the time. That's why I nicknamed my pickup "The Beast" for the reasons above.

An excellent analogy! And "yes" -- I would have to agree --- you do have a warped mind! Who else nicknames their trucks? I do. Max. As in Duramax.

Who started this thread anyway and how did Ronald Reagan and "20 Horseteam Borax" find its way into it? Must have been somebody with a warped mind. Check the Guest List, Nancy. Who let these people in here?

Did someone call me? I thought I heard "Twisted Mind". ..... My old '94 Ram was named "Thunder" by my neighbors 8 year old daughter. She claimed that is what it sounded like in her bedroom when I fired it up in the morning. The new trucks are too quiet, but they have doubled the horses. And the prices ... come to think of it. I think I'll keep my '04.5 .... pretty soon you will need a Phd just to open the hood and six figure salary to buy one. You guys didn't think you were going to get away without my 2˘.

I usually drive to the bus lot (in The Beast) and take the bus downtown to work. However, every now and then, I have to face up to reality (and miss my bus nap) and drive to work. Well, as all of you know, parking a CC LWB DRW diesel is not pretty. I have a surface lot on the edge of downtown that I can park in the far reaches easily. The parking attendent recognizes me - or rather my truck. When I pay, he just smiles and says, "El Grande!". My DW says she likes "The Beast" better. She has also named the Alpine fiver, "Beauty".

Yup, that's right. Go ahead a say it . . .

Talking Names

Hey GEO, we all get names of things from our DW's. She calls my truck, Hank the Tank and after washing our 5ver by hand she named it MOBY DICK and a few other things. She even calls the Garmin "Hellen" when it says, recaululating.
