Relocating Thermostat

I relocated the thermostat in our 2011 Avelanche 340TG from the bedroom into the living area. We normally sleep with our bedroom door closed and am about to install a 2nd AC/heater in the bedroom. I didn't want the 2nd AC affecting the thermostat for the rest of the rv.

I bought a piece of 8 conductor (only 6 are needed) thermostat wire, and drilled a hole thru the bottom cornor of the cabinet into the wall that the thremostat was mounted on in the bedroom. I ran the 8 conductor wire thru the hole I drilled into the cabinet. I spliced the 6 wires I needed into the existing thermostat wiring. I also drilled a hole in the bottom cornor of the cabinet to run the 8 conductor wiring into the wall to the new location. Then just wired up the thermostat and attached to the wall. I also installed a 'blank' cover over the original hole the factory had in the wall.

We have the second A/C in the bedroom and we are constantly complaining that the thermostat is in the wrong place. We get to be nice and cold (12.5K is a fridge in that bedroom... nice in Texas... the back room would be warm. I'm going to look at that modification too.

Its really an easy project. Just need a long enough drill bit and make sure you have the angle right to go from the cornor of the cabinet into the wall behind the thermostat without drilling into the bathroom wall.

Have you noticed in the 2nd bathroom it is either very hot or very cold, depending on if the heat or air is on? I need to find a way to shut off those vents I guess.

Actually yes, that back bathroom is not very balanced. What I found in my exploration is that the vent behind the toilet wall (towards floor) is about a 6 inch duct coming straight off the furnace. No wonder it's scorching hot. I took a ball of aluminum foil (had to do something) and shoved it into the duct. Good thing I did that because the rest of the camper got more heat. I haven't figured out the A/C vent though we leave the dorr open whn people are in that room.

Here is what I found locally and purchased to help with the hot and cold problem in the 2nd bath.
The ones in top are the ones I just bought. The bottom are originals.
