If you have the pull-out sliding rack, I wouldn't recommend putting 3 bikes plus the spare tire on it. Instead, I would take the spare tire and place it in the bed of the truck. Once this pull-out rack is fully extended with bikes and spare tire, there is just too much weight that is not adequately supported - especially since it will be subjected to more bouncing up and down and stress.
I think you may be right in your assessment that "it will do the same thing".
I'd look at having a hitch receiver welded or bolted to the frame and inserting a reputable bike rack into the receiver rather than carrying them and the tire on the extended pull-out.
