2014 Cougar Night Light

I have a 2014 cougar 25rlswe so far it has been all we wanted it to be with only 2 things that bother me one is a very small tv and two is the back light on the control panel. the control panel seems to be very hard to read and when you turn on the back light the only part that lights up is the cougar which does nothing for the rest of the panel. It seems like that is a waste of design and money to add a switch that controls the lighting of a cougar decal. When I talked with keystone about this I was informed that it can be used as a night light. Like I said a lot of money for a night light that does not light up very much of the night. The tv I replaced.

Hmm. Because ours is lower end the only night light we have is the light on the front of the DVD/stereo, but is surprisingly bright so it does its job.
Our control panel has no backlighting whatsoever, that would be a nice feature to have a "push to see" in the dark.

Just did a mod on the control panel. When I was trying to figure out how to make it readable at night by lighting it' I noticed when I took it a part, mine was designed to be back lit. I went to auto zone and got a small decorative blue led light. Not a bulb, but a stickable one with a cigarette adapter on it. It had two sided tape so I stuck it to the back side of the bedroom wall facing the panel. I cut the plug off and ran the power lead to the cougar backlight switch and the neutral to the neutral of the switch to the right. Closed it up and flipped the backlight switch to on. All the words on the panel glow blue and are readable now. I added another to the exterior of the panel to read the tank levels. Very easy mod. Cost me $10.

Bright

We have the same model Cougar, except that it's a 2013. For us, the night light on the stereo is so bright that we have to cover it up at night. It shines directly at the bed from the other end of the trailer. Is there any way to shut that light off when it's not wanted?

What size TV did you install? We haven't used ours very often, but when we do, it's definitely too small for the distance from the chairs.

stereo

Murphysmom
I also covered up the light on the stereo at night until last year some one on this forum told us about how to adjust the light volume.
I did the adjustment and it worked great. Just can't remember how to do it.
Maybe someone will chime in on the how to do it part!
Ron

Just found the instructions:
To adjust the volume brightness of the LCD,press the volume control(2) (I think they mean twice) repeatedly until the light apears
Rotate the volume control to adjust the LCD brightness from light 1 (brightest) to light 3 (least bright).
Hope this helps

We replaced the tv with a 29inch LG LCD we use it on the stand and when we are traveling we put it on top of the bed. Not the best but it gives you more screen.

I agree with you about a waste of an engineeing feat from Keystone to light up a emblem. When we got our 5th wheel home and started inspecting all the switches and came upon that switch, I was like "Whata"

I actually want to wire that switch to the ceiling light in the hallway instead of having to reach up to turn on the light (don't know when I'll accomplish that). You didn't happen to take any photos while doing the backlight switch Mod?

Panel backlighting

On our 2015, Keystone is still using the ridiculous control panel that only has backlighting in the Cougar name. This is a total waste and since the whole panel appears to be made for backlighting, it is nearly impossible to read any of the labels without using a flashlight. How dumb is that?
I am going to try adding a blue LED light as someone else has done.
