Pet Transport
Good morn!
We have had 3 of our pups pass this year. While it’s been hard on us, one of our dogs needs a buddy. We are looking at some dogs, in Georgia. I ran across a pet shipping sites and now have bids from 20 + shippers.
Anyone ever use this type of service? I never knew they existed till last night.

We bought our little guy out of state and had him shipped. That was over 13 years ago, but we said we would never do that again. At 3 months old we believe the experience traumatized him. Separated from mom, put in a crate and onto a noisy plane. To this day he hates crates and has terrible separation anxiety.
I know different dogs have different temperaments so others may do just fine. Our guy has been a great dog in every other aspect but we believe the crate/separation thing might have been avoidable if we had picked him up in person. Just a thought.
I don't remember which service was used so I can't answer your original question.

A lot of time you can avoid pet allergies by buying local..

There are local animal shelters with dogs available all over the country, why not try your local shelter & adopt one of those before they're put down.
You could adopt 2-3 buddies for the price of having 1 shipped.
The best dogs we've had were the couple that found us after someone dumped them in the middle of nowhere.

Appreciate both your suggestions on shelter or local.
We are in the dog business, we own a kennel, and know the situation well.
First, shelters are fairly empty due to Covid. People staying home more and want buddies.
Second, these are a certain breed (Italian Greyhounds) that we are familiar with. We’ve personally have had 5 now in our married lives. The breeders are few and far between. (These two dogs are mother and son 8 yrs old and 11 months, not puppies, should have clarified)
Last 5 dogs (3 Italians, a coon hound and a husky mix) have all come from shelters, so we’ve tried hard to be part of the soliton as well.
We started the year with 5 pups in our family and down to 2. We live the dog life every second of the day.

We used a pet shipping service to ship our dog to Germany when we were assigned there. NEVER AGAIN !!!!! When we picked her up in Frankfurt, the crate was upside down, on a rotating luggage carousel, with a terrified dog inside. All the "hype" about personal, attentive service, we walk your dog at every stopover, comfort guaranteed and safety assured.... All "feel-good slogans" aimed at getting your money, not taking care of your pet.
While I'm sure there are some "up front and caring" shipping services, let's face it, the dog isn't going to be able to give you any report of what happened, and many of the "get your money and run pet services" know that far better than most customers.....
When we bought a GWP from Idaho, I flew out to pick her up, rented a car and "WE" drove home together.
That said, if you're looking for a "high dollar specialty breed" then you might need to consider a shipping service. If you're looking for a "good buddy companion" then there's hundreds or thousands right where you are.

Keep looking. There are animal transporters that are ethical, kind and, of course, expensive. We tend to actually travel (fly) to where our next dogs are from, but that is pretty sketchy nowadays, and we only got one small one at a time. We did find someone local who was going to be in the area where our pup was born and brought her back to Denver, where we met them. Check on the IGCA website and perhaps there might be a way to connect with another breeder who is doing some transporting. We have also driven half way to pick up a dog, but Oregon to Georgia is an awful long way for that. Good luck

I guess I need clarify further,
They ground transport or ride in plane cabin
The ground transport have vans/Suv with crates. Stay in hotels at night
Flights are direct, dogs sit under the seats in front of passengers.
Just got off the phone with owner of dogs and he knows the first dog transport owner as he’s used him before.
We are both leaning towards the in cabin flight as it is shorter.
Thanks for input for sure everyone. I’ve read the horror stories. We were just about to Rent a class C and head out but the winter has me more than freak about slick roads and being stranded somewhere in WY. Plus time off work is tough as I’m sure everyone in biz here has felt the Pinch in the pocketbook.

Good deal. Cute pups. We feel your pain too - lost our 10yo beagle to cancer in 2019.
We scored a labradoodle from a rescue. She's about 16 months now, and sits like one of the kids looking out the window in the truck.
It's a necessary evil sometimes I expect - too bad that everyone doesn't handle with care like they should.

Thanks all, yes they are not “ours” yet as they don’t trust us, so no, we don’t want to try and catch them either
