TPMS sensors...take off during storage?

Should I be taking off my TPMS sensors while I have my trailer in storage for the winter?

I always remove mine and also take out the batteries. Then install new batteries in the spring.

Just what I thought and it does make sense. Thanks

Good question. I’m gonna think about that for mine ice and snow can’t be good for them. I do plan on going south this winter but in between trips probably a good idea and remove batteries

I remove mine and remove the batteries to prevent any chance of battery leaking and corroding the contacts. The batteries are so common and inexpensive I throw them away and install new ones in the spring. I also put plastic caps on the valve stems to keep any debris or ice out.

Past few years I have left them in all year. But, here in gets colder and more snow. We will not be using the trailer til maybe April. So yeah I will be removing them and tossing the batteries.

The sensors are activated when installed. Leaving them on will run the batteries down. If you remove them anytime your not actually driving/using them, the batteries will last a couple years.

I used to take them off, but now I just remove the batteries, recap them carefully, and leave them on the tires. Ice and snow and (for the most part) rain are not problems here.

I should have put this in my original reply, your post jogged my failing memory.

One of the reasons I remove mine over the off season is the thought that it's that many months that the valve core isn't being depressed for no reason. It may make no difference and I guess the rational comes from owning guns all my life (it's not good practice to keep a semi auto clip loaded all the time because it weakens the spring and can cause jamming over time).

As I remove them anyway to adjust the air pressure while in storage every couple of months it just seems logical to me to have a "standard" plastic cap that I don't have to be concerned about if I drop it in the mud or snow.
