Smelly Hotwater

My brother has a 2008 Everest fifth wheel. He ask me what to do about smelly hotwater. We have fulltimed for 7 years with 3 different fifth wheels and never had that problem, didn't know what to tell him any ideas?

Drain it, rinse it out and refill. The water in the heater will become smelly if it sits for a while.

Water with a high sulphur content will do that when left for a bit. Well water is very susceptible to this. As stated, drain and rinse.

When I had well water at my last house, I would put a touch of bleach in the water tank prior to filling. Check the FDA website for proper dilution.

Most city water will not do this due to trace amounts of chlorine.

Trouble is, many times you are not aware if a campground's water supply us city or well. I have stayed at both. Sometimes you can ask the host. Hopefully they're accurate.

I had this same problem in my Everest and I fixed it. Even after draining the water system I still got odor from the bedroom hot water faucet. Turns out the water lines going to the washing machine faucets in the bedroom closet were not getting flushed and were contaminating the bedroom faucet water. So I hooked up my hose to the washer faucets and flushed the lines into the shower drain. Cured.

I have a 2011 Avalanche with the same bad odor smell from the water in the bathroom sink only. I have had this issue since the trailer was new. After reading your post I turned the water supply off, opened the low point drains, pulled open the bedroom drawers so I could access the hot cold water outlets for the washer, opened the valves and could hear water draining from the system. After closing all valves and turning the water supply back on there is no more odor coming from the water supply in the bathroom sink. 24 hours later all is well. Thank you for the fix.
